What’s the deal with everybody dumping Holl? Has he struggled this year? Sorry I’ve been super busy and haven’t been able to watch as much hockey as I usually do

Yes. He has been quite bad.

A healthy scratch for the 4th game in a row (I think) tonight.

However, I doubt he gets dealt unless it’s a return Dubas really likes. We need NHL quality dmen, and Holl is that.

Holl has been poor this season. But I really don't see any benefit in trading him, unless the Leafs fill a Dman spot with a competent NHLer. Injuries happen, is Biega or any of the Marlies NHL capable?
We see a lot of posts being "cap friendly" but often not "roster friendly"

It more about cap space. When Mikheyev comes back they need to either waive Engvall or make a trade. I think trading Holl is better as I think this is the best top 6 Toronto has had in years. I think adding another Dman at the deadline would do wonders for Toronto. Adding a top pairing shutdown RHD with 1 yr left would be amazing and really solidify the d core till Liljgren is ready for a bigger role.

More of a cap move. You either waive Engvall or make a trade. I think making a trade is better

Now you're talking bout a TDL move, which might makes sense. But trading Holl now and hoping the Leafs go Dman injury free till March certainly isn't practical.

Imo it is as we have players that can step up into top 4 roles if needed with Sandin and Liljgren

?????? But who plays the bottom 12 to 14 minutes a night when you have a 6 NHL Dman on the roster and one gets injured.

Menell, Dalhstrom, Biega, or Rubins. We have defensive depth. What you’re asking is for a deep run. You don’t have to the team that wins a Stanley cup in November. You add at the deadline to make that

Again you are talking "depth". If Holl is traded and there is a DMan injury....the players you mentioned above aren't "depth" they would be NHL regulars. Dalhstrom, Biega were signed to minimal NHL contracts, then waived so obviously no other team in the NHL thought they were NHL good enough. Menell and Rubins does anyone think they can handle NHL minutes?

But depth doesn’t play 70 games. Depth play games in a pinch…

Really? Two seasons ago, Reilly was LTIR and Muzzin was LTIR twice. So I disagree with your math.

That was 2yr ago on an injury riddled team that didn’t have 2 d-man that could step up and into top 4 roles like Liljegren and Sandin. A bottom pairing dman would play max 12 mins a night if they were called up against less competition.
