I definitely don’t like this trade for Philadelphia, it seems questionable for New York, and I’m not even sure it works for Ottawa.
Philadelphia is probably pretty happy with Marty Jones as a backup so far, and Hart seems to be off to a good start, so they don’t need Murray, and a late 2nd is not enough to swallow a contract like that.
I don’t think Thompson is worth much so the benefits for New York would be a 3rd round pick and some additional cap space, but they don’t need the cap space unless they have another move in mind, and they still need a backup goalie, so unless they have somebody else who they think can do the job as well as Georgiev for less money, they’re better off keeping him.
Ottawa has to be disappointed with Murray for all the money they’re paying him, and Georgiev might be better (though he’s not off to a very good start), but I think they like Filip Gustavsson, and as a team that is still trying to build for the future they’d probably think twice about giving up those two draft picks.
