That would be an interesting move.

I don't see it happening and I'm not entirely sure whats going on with Monahan in Calgary. Why is he on the 4th line? Both players haven't been what they were but Toews is getting back into some rhythm and I doubt we move him.

I caveat all that by saying I wouldn't accept this trade.

Monahan had a major hip surgery in the offseason, think about how Seabrook was playing because he needed double hip surgery. He's slowly been regaining his form but Toews at the end of the day is still an upgrade over him.

Would you do say less retention and make it a 1st and a good prospect? (not any of Wolf, Zary, Coronato, or Pelletier. But someone like Francis, Ruzicka, Kuznetsov, Poirier, Gawdin, Heineman)

Just a thought that came to my head. I think if this trade were to happen it would be something like Toews+Strome for Monahan+A/B level Prospect+Pick.

I really don't know what's going on with Monahan. He also doesn't / hasn't adapted to Sutter's system yet which is why I think he's gone.
As for Toews, the trade would obviously be done once CHI has a perma GM, and if Toews wants a change of scenery from all the scandal stuff coming out.

Still curious if they are potential partners or if Monahan will get shipped to Seattle lol

Thanks for the update on Monahan.

Its really interesting this topic come up. I was only talking with one of my good mates who is a Flames guy and he asked if we would consider moving one of Toews or Kane with how poor we were going. My response was that I don't see any big moves happening whilst there is an interim GM in place. Not because I don't think he has it in him but more from the ownership side requesting they keep them around. I too share that sentiment that I wouldn't like to see either in different colours but lets say hypothetically it was on the table. I would think the organisation would want Monahan in the discussions as for a prospect and or pick that would be the debatable scenario. Giving up Toews face-offs, leadership (winning culture) and overall skill which is still quite high is a tough pill and Monahan doesn't cover all that so a Prospect would want to be high or the pick would need to be high or both.

Yes all very good points. It is a hard one for me because of what Toews has done tho if he did want a release, the club would grant him that request I believe. As for the return that is tough as I alluded in the post above. Monahan would certainly be involved, then it would come down to picks and prospects and how its broken down. I would preferably want a higher end prospect rather than a pick. Whether CGY would be open to doing that I'm not sure. There could be retention if the pick is of High End potential.

Also, we would have to be continuing down the path we started this year tho early signs are suggesting we already hit rock bottom and its onwards and upwards from here. Time will tell
