Makes no sense for Detroit, losing two defenders who can play in the third pairing for us and a seventh to get Burroughs who isn't needed, Poolman when we could just keep Stecher just to move up 10ish picks in the fourth round

Why not? Stecher is just getting scratched game after game it seems, plus Wings get a 7th

Stecher is getting scratched because he is Detroit's 4th best defenseman . Since Stecher is ≥ Poolman and Burroughs. Oesterle is a LD and better than all 3 of them.

I think that's debatable the difference in talent, but you're allowed to have that opinion, and no way Stecher is the wings 4th best defenseman. He's easily only their 7th or 8th defenseman behind Dekeyser, Leddy, Seider, Hronek, and arguable Staal, and Lindstrom if not Osterle as well. I've watched Stecher with the Canucks, Poolman is better than he is

The sign I used was greater than or equal to but you might be right Poolman might be better than Stecher. On the right side of Detroit's D is Hronek, Seider and Lindstrom. Hronek and Seider are easily better than Stecher. Stecher didn't even dress the first 4 games and hasn't dressed for the last 5 games. Lindstrom did get ding up a bit and was briefly on the IR but as soon as he was better he went back to playing and Stecher was back to being a healthy scratch. Now Osterle is a LD and both Poolman and Burroughs play RD. Osterle is the youngest player on the left side at 29 and the average age of the left side of Detroit's defense is 31 and because of their age they have a much greater chance of being injured. So trading Osterle who is very much part of the rotation for a couple of defensemen that would only play if someone was injured or needed a game or 2 off. That being said right now Stecher's value not so great maybe a 6th rd pick. Even a 6th rd pick is more useful to Detroit than both of those defensemen.

Maybe this season it is, but next season a roster player may be more valuable than a late round pick to the Wings. I may not be a Wings fan but I honestly don't know how much longer Yzerman can preach the whole "patience" slogan to the motor city
