I know the Nashville part of the package was never in Ottawa's possession.

But it's pretty obvious that Nashville was willing to give it up for Kyle Turris.

Instead of getting Mikkel Boedker, we get the picks that Florida sent to San Jose and we don't get humiliated by Doug Wilson.

Because San Jose used the 2nd round pick from the second Mike Hoffman trade to get Erik Karlsson, San Jose still owes us a 2nd round pick from 2019.

If Ottawa traded Mike Hoffman to Florida instead of San Jose, then what we would have also received from the Erik Karlsson trade, San Jose's 2nd round pick for 2019 instead along with everything else.

And there would be no condition on the pick.

San Jose would have then needed to find another 2nd round pick from somewhere to get Gustav Nyqust for their 2019 Cup Run.

The issue is, if you keep Duchene, Stone and Zibanejad, I can't imagine Byram, Stuetzle are there...

            1. Ottawa never trades for Duchene in this scenario.

            2. We would get Stutzle because he was selected with San Jose's 1st round pick, not Ottawa's.

            3. We still would tank in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

Mika Z and Mark Stone would be unable to stop it and we would still have the 4th overall pick for 2019.

If you don't trade Z for Brass we likely wouldn't have went to the Conference Finals and you don't have Gus or JBD.

After looking at the two Brassard trades in a vacuum more closely, this is how Ottawa did:

            Mika Zibanejad
            Vincent Dunn
            33rd overall pick for 2018
            64th overall pick for 2018

            for

Derick Brassard's contributions to the Ottawa Senators between July, 2016 and February, 2018
            Ian Cole
            Filip Gustavsson
            22nd overall pick for 2018
            83rd overall pick for 2019
            194th overall pick for 2018

I would say Pierre Dorion made up for the Zibanejad trade, at least somewhat.

            But, you're absolutely right.

I'll erase the Zibanejad trade smile

I was looking at the trades earlier and saw Vincent Dunn.... had to look a little deeper, that's not Vince Dunn of the Kraken haha.

But, yeah, I like Z, and wasn't a huge fan of the trade at the time but I think it worked out for both teams.
