I'd be interested if there's some salary retention on Gallagher.

6 years at 6.5m, I’m not sure Montreal would be willing to eat that much money. I like Gallagher but Brannstrom and a 2nd is going to look like a ridiculous overpay by the time Gallagher is 34 making that much money

Brannstrom has to be moved. DJ Smith is ruining his career

Brannstrom and a late 2nd is what we got for Mark Stone.

Vegas needed to give Stone a way bigger contract than what Gallagher currently has to keep Stone around.

Going from Mark Stone to Brandon Gallagher, Brett Kulak and a 3rd round pick is not that bad.

It allows us to save face on the Mark Stone trade in the event Brannstrom doesn't pan out.

To be fair Kulak is a placeholder at best, downgrading from a 2nd to a 3rd isnt great and Stone's pretty much scored over a ppg each of his last 5 seasons, even at his peak Gallagher's never sniffed that. So I'd say even at Gallagher's inflated rate, the bump in salary for Stone is well deserved.

It's tough comparing because this package wouldnt go anywhere near getting Stone out of Vegas but then again neither would Brannstrom and a 2nd.

Honestly it might just be stubbornness but at this point I think we're past saving face, I'd much rather put all the eggs in one basket and help Brannstrom & Sokolov succeed. If they don't pan out then the team should wear that. But realistically does Gallagher play ahead of Brown? Maybe but if not then that's one of the most expensive 3RW's in the league, he's probably not getting any better and we'd have him for the next 6 years.

Gallagher's contract with Montreal ends in the same year as Stone's contract with Vegas.

And our holes at RW would be a lot smaller.

But to each his own smile
