I’d prefer Suzuki tbh but I think a late first/early second is reasonable as the finishing piece. I assume teams are going to be bidding to sign him longer term.

Drop the 2023 1st to a 2nd and I think you are closer in the Carolina trade.

So… I know the rumor is that Goose will resign for cheap but I wonder for how long and I don’t see what he brings if Addison makes the roster. Kulikov looks like a great partner for Addison and could play 20 min a night, which would be good for Goose but I want Spurg on the ice longer.

I’ll be honest, neither Drury nor Suzuki do anything for me personally. I’m not expecting a high end blue chip prospect and a 1st, but I’d much rather the wild shop around if they’re going to move Fiala. I believe there will be better offers out there. Carolina doesn’t seem like the best fit anymore.

Can Greenway play on the right side? Also, if the cap doesn’t go up, you will have to take some from the oilers, because we will be tight against the cap!

Spurgeon getting more ice time ALWAYS ends up with time in the pressbox healing! He should never get more than 20 minutes a night!

Let’s say CAR puts up Suzuki and a 1st, which I think would do, what is a better offer? Maybe you can get Groulx from ANA or Turcotte from LAK, but I’m not sure how an offer gets better on total value.

A 2023 1st that’s almost certainly very late and a guy that has 13 points in 31 AHL games with effort level questions attached to him...? I realize this isn’t a bad offer, but it hardly gets me excited, so Id like them to shop around. I don’t have a laundry list of other packages to present you, but knowing the player that Fiala is, I’d think they can get a more intriguing piece. Lower pick but better prospect or vice versa.

But what does the “better prospect” look like? I don’t see anybody giving a top 10 pick it a blue chip for Fiala. Especially given only 1 year of certainty. All of the guys I listed are mid 6 Cs.

But think about it from the other side. Would you give up a guy like Jarvis with his whole runway ahead of him for a good winger that’s about to hit his peak? I wouldn’t.

No as I said, I wouldn’t expect a blue chip and a 1st. Which Jarvis most certainly is. It’s probably someone like Suzuki, but my point was specifically around it being Drury/Suzuki and Carolina. Very late pick, very replaceable prospects.

I’d take a similar package from say, Columbus or LA, over this one from Carolina. Plenty of organizations have prospects that are just as good as Suzuki but aren’t in that “untradeable” Jarvis level tier, all while offering a better pick.

This is like the lower end is of what I’d be looking for. Pick should be 5-7-10 spots better, and prospect can be a little more interesting.

I might be way off base, but I just feel like this is a lot closer to Fiala’s floor value than it is ceiling.

I think you’re thinking about the LAK/ANA scenario. From a MIN perspective, the prospect is most important. So let’s say it’s Turcs (who is organizationally expendable and slightly better than Suzuki). I don’t think LAK puts a 1st on the table, probably an early-mid 2nd. The fact Fiala only has 1 more RFA year really kills his value.

Exactly, that’s what I meant by “lower pick but better prospect or vice versa.” I realize there’s a give and take, but that’s exactly my point. This is neither a high pick nor a compelling prospect. I’m willing to sacrifice a little on one, if it means improving the other.

Edit - yes the RFA is a bigger factor than I’m giving it. Def hurts the value, probably more than I’m admitting

If Turcs is the guy you are thinking, I’m in on that. I’m also very interested in Suzuki as a prospect, so that’s part of why I like the late 1st on top. But I wonder how the front office views the gap between Suzuki/Turcs and a late 1st/mid 2nd.

Yeah maybe I’m more bearish on Suzuki than I should be. In a vacuum, I would definitely move down 15-20 spots if it meant Turcs over Suzuki. But FO may not agree. I do think ultimately it will be something similar though. Futures package, up or down on the dials in terms of pick/prospect.

That’s been my thoughts on a Fiala deal for a while now. Negotiate around the prospect and let the market define the pick.

I personally have never been completely sure if Suzuki would be a Hurricane in the long run. He is an intriguing Center prospect, but I just have a hard time imaging that they would trade Drury before Suzuki. In a trade like this, but think it really depends on how you value the ceiling of a player. Suzuki has a higher floor than Drury, but Drury has the higher ceiling of the two. Minnesota has really good winger prospects, but they don’t have as many high end centers. If Suzuki + 2nd rounder doesn’t do it, you might be able to push for that plus another center prospect who isn’t Drury. I am pretty sure that if the Canes were to trade one of Suzuki and Drury, the player who isn’t traded will likely stay.

Play him 60 a night until he's injured and put on LTIR for the rest of the season. Then use that cap space for something useful.

I really like Suzuki’s skill set and he is showing the work ethic coming back from injury. But I agree that he’s probably a top 6 C in the NHL or a bust, and that uncertainty makes a 1st more likely IMO. With the Wild’s current prospect pool, that’s a good risk to take. I’d rather go for broke than get a sure thing bottom 6 C.
