Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2021
Published: Dec. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
the red wings right now are two steps from contending for a cup:

1: vrana coming back
2: acquiring a very good 1c

raymond and seider are gonna keep getting better, we're eventually gonna have edvinsson, cossa, soderblom, johansson, etc, and of course we already have a bunch of good forward pieces like bertuzzi, zadina, and eventually vrana. the red wings have everything to become a cup contender except for a 1c. i just used pettersson as an example, i dont see him being traded, but i wanted to see what the team would look like with someone like him, and i wanted to see what the trade price for someone like that would be.

Gonna cost alot more for a player like him, only interesting pieces are Berggren and the first. We are alot further away from competing than you think. We currently only have Oesterle signed for the left side next year. Edvinsson probably makes the team but he might not be an impact player like Seider right of the bat. Raymond and Seider might be playing good right now but one season doesn't prove much, if they can get another real good season or two in then we should be ready to compete.
All in all I think the team is two to three years away from competing.

I think if Zadina was in the trade rather than Fabbri the Canucks would at least consider it for a moment - providing they think Zadina can take steps forward in their organization.

i wasnt asking if it was close, i made a point about what i thought the red wings main concern is atm, which is that we dont have a 1c, i used pettersson as an example, and wanted to know what itd take to get a player like that. either make a genuine suggestion or dont comment at all.

yeah someone like zadina would probably have to be in the trade. itd be something like 3 or 4 1st round level assets, so im guessing itd start with zadina and edvinsson.

obviously we could use one or two solid defensemen, and some of our prospects need to develop a bit more, but we're way closer to competing than you think. neddy is playing super well, and cossa looks super promising. we have one of the most loaded prospect pools in the nhl, including at least 2 or 3 top defensive prospects, and we have a very good record despite vrana being out. id agree that we're 2 or 3 seasons away, but i wouldnt be shocked if we make some noise in the playoffs next season. id say the season cossa makes his debut, we'll be cup contenders.

btw raymond and seider aren't just "playing good right now", the way theyre playing its extremely hard to say they arent gonna be elite level players, if not more than that.

So since you don't see him getting traded you make a BS offer for him? I don't see the connection...

As I said, not only was your trade absurd, so is your analysis. The Wings aren't two steps away from competing for a cup.

i made what i think would be the cheapest possible option to start a conversation about what a trade for someone like him would look like for the red wings. maybe you noticed there were some other who gave genuine opinions of how the trade could be improved, and that was the point.

also, the red wings are definitely close to competing. obviously they arent just two steps, they're gonna need to wait for some prospects to develop, and for players like zadina to fully break out, but that goes without saying. what i wrote were what i think the two main steps are, what needs to be added to the core of the team. vrana coming back, and a trade for someone like pettersson would complete the top 6. a top 6 of vrana - pettersson - raymond, and bertuzzi - larkin - zadina would be one of the best top 6's in the league, especially if zadina breaks out. the bottom 6 is already pretty solid, and we have quite a few top defensive prospects that would make a big difference to the team. maybe we would need to add a more defensively minded defenseman, but given edvinsson and johansson are as good as they should be, our defense wouldnt be a problem at all. the goalie situation is great, neddy looks amazing, and greiss is really solid too. plus cossa looks like a steal at 15th overall, so we're pretty set for the future in the goalie department.
now, i probably shouldve been clearer in saying that i dont think if we added pettersson we would be competitive this year, but if we were to add pettersson, we would have everything we needed to be competitive as soon as next season. the lack of a 1c is really the only hole in our lineup, and the only hole that wont eventually be filled by one of our prospects.
