Add an unprotected 2022 1st round pick and the pens maybe trade you Pettersson. But straight up 1 for 1, hell no. Pettersson is better than McCabe

Really? I've been told McCabe is a really underrated defenseman, and Pettersson has been in trade rumours for a while now, being treated as the odd man out on the Pens blueline

The only chance he’s received were his 8 games last year, in which he played great. Showed incredible vision and puck moving ability. 5 pts in 8 games as a 19 year old sounds decent to me.

He had a brief stint at the beginning of the year in which he hardly played and was put in less than ideal positions. Then got sent down as he needed more time in the AHL.

He’s 20, has 14 pts in 18 games in the AHL. On pace for nearly 60 pts as a defenseman. Doing pretty well IMO.

Mmm, I see

The team loves Zaitsev, but the team loves their 2022 1st round pick even more. This trade isn't happening

The Sens...love Zaitsev????

I know it's not great value, but buffalo and Kane isn't happening and shouldnt

I was just trying to blow the team up in a way that I thought might even remotely make sense

Yes, the team. Many fans hate him, but many fans don't understand what he brings. This isn't fantasy hockey, it's hard hitting, physical hockey, and that's Zaitsev, He hits, he blocks shots, he does what he needs to do. He isn't perfect, and the bloggers will focus on his mistakes because of his salary, but even his salary is a benefit. The team barely made the cap floor opening day even with Zaitsev, Murray, and White, the three most disliked because of salary. As long as the team isn't near the cap ceiling, it's not a problem. Ignore the salary, and watch the player without bias, he's really not as bad as some try to characterize him as.

Pettersson was in trade rumors in the offseason. Not so much now. He was in trade rumors cause the pens were hoping to clear some cap to possibly go after the bigger fish in free agency like Blake Coleman and to add a 3rd pair RHD. That really didn’t work out and since Pettersson has really upped his game and playing his best hockey yet, they probably don’t want to trade him. McCabe might be underrated but doesn’t mean he is an upgrade. McCabe is a 2nd pair d at best. Pettersson looks to be on an upward projection and will be 2nd pair at worst. Him and Marino might be our future top pair.

Changed, hopefully fixed it

That’s better but they wouldn’t have the cap space for Toews lol

Could be, question is how much longer the Pens can stay competitive, with or without Crosby et Malkin

Oh okay, I hear ya, I feel similarly when it comes to Tyler Myers and the Canucks, although the Canucks worry more about staying under the ceiling rather than staying above the cap floor. I never doubted that Zaitsev has legit on-ice tangibles, but still I've heard some say that he's the worst puck mover in the league, which I think is still saying something

Meh, I still see them as a bubble playoff team that is likely to get bounced in the first round yet again
