Smart trade

Created by: CEO
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 19, 2021
Published: Dec. 26, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas's lineup next year as if now looks something like:

Pacioretty-Eichel-Stone
Dadonov-Karlsson-Marhcessault
Somebody-Stephenson-Somebody(Howden?? Koelsar??)
Carrier-Patrick-Roy (Roy, Howden, and Kolesar are RFAs)

Theodore-Pietrangelo
Martinez-Whitecloud
Somebody(Hague)-Coghlan (Hague is an RFA)

Lehner
Brossoit

All this with just over 2M in cap space. The have several RFAs to be resigned, and they are losing top players like Smith, McNabb, and Janmark. They have Dadonov on their 2nd line. They could really shed some cap to make something work..

  1. Dowling, Justin
  2. Poolman, Tucker
  3. 2023 4th round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
One bad deal for another. Vegas remains competitive next year and can possibly retain Smith. They get a depth pick and a great 4C at league minimum. Rutherford gets rid of Benning's last mistake. Need to add anything?

I guess Vancouver would have to decide whether Poolman at 2.75m X 3 is worse than Daddy at 5m X 1. Daddy also also have just a 10 trade list.

Vegas would not be smart taking on Poolman's contract especially when they have 0 need for him in the lineup

Canucks would have to find a depth D to replace poolman, injuries happen and Sautner is a liability, like most of the Canucks' defense. Remove Dowling, and then add a late pick or just make the 4th a 3rd and Vegas accepts.

Well it's close, but we need Cap Space at the end of next year, if we want to keep Horvat, Miller and Hogs, or find replacements for them. Daddy can still score and I think on a line with Hoglander and Horvat, he might find big numbers once again.

Sautner is our AHL captain, only reason we have him. Borroughs is NHL caliber, but this defense's effectivesness really depends on how good Myers, OEL, and Rathbone are. There's Juulsen as another possibility, but another daman would be nice, just not at Poolman's cap hit. Honestly while making this trade I thought Dowling was much more valuable to Vegas, who are cap strapped, then a depth a pick. Vancouver would personally much rather keep Dowling

Poolman has been playing fine, I wouldn't call him a liability, but yeah, Vegas has no need for another right-handed D-man

Not too sure Vegas would do this. If it was a LHD maybe.
