The Canucks have one of the worst D cores in the NHL and all 3 of your RD would be 7th defenseman on half the teams in the league. It’s very rare for goalies to be consistently elite, most of their numbers vary from year to year. It’s always the right move to trade a goalie for a young top pair D.

Saying that Vancouver has one of the worst D cores is even more lunacy than this Demko trade. Teams don't go on 8-0-1 runs if there defense is as weak as you say it is. You are wayyyyy underrating their right-side of defense, Myers is playing like a bonafied 2nd pair caliber defenseman, Luke Schenn has been solid alongside Quinn Hughes, and their 3rd pairing guys in Tucker Poolman, Brad Hunt, and Kyle Burroughs have all done their part to hold down the fort in rounding out Vancouver's lineup. Sure, Burroughs and Hunt are no. 7 caliber D-men ideally, but Tucker Poolman has played like a solid no. 5/no. 6 D-man and nobody outside Vancouver has noticed not suprisingly

Vancouver could of course use more talent on their right side of the blueline, but it's nowhere near as urgently needed as you think it is

You are absolutely clueless as to where the Canucks are at

Buffalo went on a 10 game win streak last season and their defense is trash.

Hughes is the only top 4 caliber Dman on the Canucks. I am not underrating them at all- the numbers don’t lie, myers/Burroughs/poolman underlying numbers are awful.

Hughes is carrying the defense and it’s needs a makeover or Vancouver will never be able to take that next step

You are oh so very wrong, maybe you are still stuck in the past when Travis Green was still behind the Canucks bench or you just don't know what you are talking about because you aren't watching the team. Hughes, Ekman-Larsson, and Myers have all been playing like credible top 4 players. Burroughs and Poolman are doing fine. Yes, they could use another top 4 guy but hey, they're winning games right now so I see no rush to work the phone lines for a trade

OEL is certainly a top 4 defender. I'd be hard pressed to find 120 defenders better than Tyler Myers in the NHL, but that's a debate for a different time. Regardless, I agree with your thesis that a top dman is more valuable than a top goalie. Mind you, I think Bouch and Demko both still need to prove they are tops at their positions.

Bouchard maybe, but I think he's pretty close as it is

Call me biased, but I think Demko is already there, he's been that good

I'm supposed to label Tyler Myers a top 4 defenseman because of an 8 game sample size? He is in the bottom 10 in almost every defensive metric over the last two seasons , the Canucks allow a lot more high danger scoring chances against when Myers is on the ice. You're right , OEL has been decent this season. It's fine to label him a good #4 D, but there isn't anything out there to prove that Myers is a top 4 D.

I'm not arguing that the Canucks should rush to trade for a defenseman right now, im just stating that if the oilers presented this offer, the Canucks should take it and run.

Actually you're right, OEL has had the impact of a good #4 this year., but Myers has been awful for the Canucks since he's signed.

Of course Bouchard has more to prove, but he's well on his way to being an elite top pair D.

The 8 game sample size doesn't look like a fluke for Myers, that's what I've been saying, and all of Canuck media is crediting Myers as a credible no. 4 D-man, not a top pairing guy, but a no. 4 guy. Vancouver hasn't been allowing very many chances against with Myers on the ice recently, I can see that much with the eye test alone, and no, I wouldn't take this offer and run if I'm the Canucks

overaxxuration lol

yes our rhd isnt very good but to say that all of them are 7d is abscurd, myers is overpaid but has been solid and would place him in a top 4 position like how is is right now
