Going for Klingberg

Created by: MadLin27
Team: 2022-23 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2022
Published: Jan. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They won't be the ideal destination for Klingberg, but Seattle could make a really compelling financial offer with their cap situation. Could be their chance to secure a top pairing guy while they try to build a contender.

Well overpaying in salary and term....7m X 8 Klingberg would be a perfect spot for JK. Bad for Seattle though

Have a feeling it’ll happen though.

I think its smart for Seattle to target a solid D. But I don't see an aging Kessel willing to come to Seattle on a 1 year deal for a team that's likely going to miss the playoffs again.

If anything I thought this would be considered an underpay...
D-men are getting paid premium $'s.

I don't think it would be that bad a deal for Seattle.
The thing about being an expansion team is you kinda have to pounce on opportunities to get high end talent. Even if it means overpaying or offering a bit too much term.

Thats fair.
Kessel is going to be a really interesting FA I think. He is putting up great numbers considering he is on ARZ. I could see him signing a 1 year deal with a contender and scoring close to 60 points.

Well, I guess we have different opinion of the current edition of Klingberg. IMO he's just good on the PP, and very average at even strength and PK. And he will be 30 when he starts playing next season.
After the silly Jones and Nurse extensions, then the cap realities kicked in. Pulock signed for 6.875 and Reilly 7.5m.

Even if Rielly is the comparable, if Seattle was signing him they could only do 7 years of course. So take the Rielly deal, minus one year, add 500k per.
I think Dallas could re-sign him for 7.5, but on the open market I think he gets 8 easily.
