Canes pass, they don’t want anything to do with Barrie or his contract. Canes also won’t shop Bear back to EDM unless they are willing to pay a kings ransom for him to return. That package doesn’t get you Hart. I don’t think Ceci will draw that much of a return.

It is a risk but if we have serious concerns about TDA’s contract, it could be worth it. Neither of Bear or Raanta are going to put them over the hump. We are looking at a lottery 1st rounder to add to our deep pool already and a 3rd pair PP QB (which is how we view TDA at this point). If it isn’t a TD move, it is still a 13-16 pick more than likely. Plenty of talent there. The crazy part is we can trade him at 50% retain for future considerations the follow year just to get rid of his hit and save money knowing its Morrow’s spot on an ELC. Sign Manson as UFA in the off-season and we have a pretty good defense for another year. Trade TDA’s rights for a good ransom and profit.

I disagree here. This is a lottery pick in the off-season. It frees up a bottom pair role for someone like Chatfield who's extended and played brilliantly during his stint with the big club. On top of that, they get even more leverage on the TDA contract saying "we don't need you, either sign for this, or Russia is waiting" kind of thing. If they don't want to keep Barrie around, there's still a market for RD men, especially offensive RD.

It also means they can get a more reliable backup. Someone like Jaro Halak in free agency who doesn't have the same injury history and will be there most of the year.

I really don't see a reason not to do this.

I guess what I’m saying is unless Barrie gets paired with a defensive wall like Cole, he can’t be used in our own dzone. TDA has been surprisingly really good defensively. We have up so little for Bear, and with how good he had played for us, I think we could squeeze a bit more out of Holland’s pocket. I mean it rarely is cheaper to reacquire a player after trading them away. In Raantas case, we definitely need someone more consistent in terms of health. The problem I have when it comes to Barrie, is his contract. Unless Canes get retention on him, it really won’t work that well cap wise. I definitely feel a team like BUF, ARI, or SEA would have to retain 50% of that contract for the Canes to really consider the risk.

TDA is in the lower echelon for ES defense according to evolving hockey. The guy hasn’t been a train wreck defensively but Barrie has less ES xGA than TDA.

Barrie is a RHD. They always have value. Contenders like RD that can QB a PP and move the puck like Barrie. Finding him a new home wouldn't be hard, or you could keep him in place of TDA.
