This makes the defence worse and Simmonds has been really good all season. He isn't sitting.

Replacing Holl and Dermott with Soucy and Mayfield makes the defence worse? Come on man.

Simmonds is not the end all be all, he's a 4th liner and everyone playing in this lineup is better than him. Love the guy but love the crest on the jersey even more.

There is almost zero statistical evidence to support that.

This article really shows how wrong people are about this team. These guys who are treated like they are worthless (Dermott, Holl, Engvall, Simmonds) are all doing terrific work. Guys succeeding less on worse teams aren't going to be automatically better in a very different system than either currently play in.

No statistical evidence? Interesting - go do me a favourite and look at their RAPM charts.

Over a 3 year span, Mayfield has been in the been in the 76th percentile for defence, Soucy 71st while Holl 66th and Dermott 67th.

Then for giggles since you sent me a TSN article (this one actually not too bad) as proof the depth guys are great, even go look at their points.

Holl's numbers in this article are inflated due to the competition that he faces. A stat called Dangerous Fenwick For % (similar to xG since they both value high danger shots more than low danger) has Holl at 47% when playing against Elite and Average competition while it sky rockets to 60% when playing against 4th liners. Dermott's numbers are similar but not as extreme since he is actually above 50% when playing against average competition but they drop to 43% when playing against elite competition. Not saying Holl and Dermott have been bad but I am saying they could be better and that is what I believe we would be getting here.

As for the Simmonds and Jarnkrok comparison, come on man...Simmonds over the last 3 years has been in the 15th percentile in GAR while Jarnkrok has been 65th%. This one shouldn't even be up for discussion, watching hockey and looking at the box score could tell you that. And its not like I'm trading Simmonds too because I know what he brings and its not in the numbers but theres no harm adding an objectively better player to your lineup when you can.

Don't get me wrong, I love the guys - I also have personal ties to Dermott and absolutely love his game, but I cheer for the Maple Leafs first and want to see them succeed.

Simmonds is top 5 in the league at expected goals per 60 minutes. That's amazing for a 4th liner. Mayfield fits the systems he's in and would struggle in TO's puck possession system.

Stats with context my guy, much of Simmonds game is crashing and jamming pucks into pads which inflate xG numbers and no finishing talent. We see this with Brady Tkachuk.

The point is our 4th line is driving play the other way. He's great to have on the team.
