CJ and Dreger on Leafs

Created by: bald_and_bankrupt
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2022
Published: Jan. 25, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dreger: The Maple Leafs are among many teams who have at least kicked tires on Chychrun, but you look at the Maple Leafs roster, how they move forward, it seems like a tough fit for the Maple Leafs to try and maneuver unless Dubas gets extraordinarly creative.

CJ: Chris Johnston on Insider Trading says Leafs may be considering acquiring players with some term at the deadline rather than trading for players with expiring contracts like they did last year

bahaha, you come here throwing shot block numbers and wanna act like corsi is bad? sure thing bud, you're a massive homer and your defender isnt good. Keep him and enjoy watching a guy who is a massive part of a bottom 3 defensive team in the league for like the past 3 years runnng.

And you've watched what; 2 maybe 3 Hawks games this season if that? You, like many fans, don't know players well outside of their hometown team, but think you do because you're a keyboard warrior yet don't watch closely the players you think you know. This isn't unusual but what is, is you're insistent to debate with people that do know about said players. Like you suggesting on another AGM Holl is better then Murphy which shows true ignorance.

Keep up the good work on here as you watch the Leafs headed for a another record breaking (6 times in a row) first round exit team. 55 years and counting without a cup yet your here you are blinded by fanboism still like Holl is better defensively then Murphy!!! laugh LOL

it's amazing how every time people tell someone else to watch the games, then that person tells them that they do in fact watch those games the origional person is all NUH UH! YOU DID NOT! It's really sad that you cannot grasp that your personal eye test is bad and some people can watch a game with neutral eyes and see that a player is in fact very different than what fans see.
I watch lots of hockey, lots and lots. I've probably watched 15-20ish hawks games this year and Murphy has not been good in them. He was also not very good last year or the year before in the 20+ games I watched each season then too.
But of course I have a different opinion than you so you get all huffy and call me a keyboard warrior because you have nothing else. Now that's true ignorance.
Keep up the good work and enjoy watching the draft lotto instead of your team in the playoffs any time soon

and he gets his head kicked in in his own end. if you start your time in that zone and you cant get it out of the zone you are not good at defence

There is a reason I wasnt going to originally comment this and that was because other Hawks fans were going to come in and blow things out of proportion. Murphy is reliable defensively. When he is on the ice, he blocks shots and forces attackers to the outside. Weakside shots can go up, but quality scoring chances go down. That information is not up for debate. At that point, you rely on goaltending and your forwards to take care of their business, Murphy can pass the puck decently. Murphy is not mobile. These last two points are where the results get skewed. Most of his controlled exits come via the pass option, so when he is with lesser forwards, which we have a bunch of, the controlled exits go down and Ryan Carpenter once again causes a goal that should not have been caused. Because of this hindrance, he will NEVER be a viable top pairing option on a contender and would ideally be a 4 guy. But thats why he is getting paid 4 million instead of 6 or 7. When your top comparables are Pesce and Ekholm, of course its going to look like you're overpaid. But upon browsing other comparables, his deal makes sense and it starts to look more market value, like Maatta Larsson and Severson. I think he would be a good fit on the leafs because they have the forward corps to make this type of play viable. It sucks that your front office overpaid Mrazek when Campbell was sitting right there waiting for a raise, but dont turn that into hate for a market valued defenseman that could help solve one of the issues and make this team a real contender.

I watch 99% of every game the Hawks play and know exactly when players are on the ice, what situation they are put into when on the ice, and who they are on a line with. My narrative is also supported by every analyst view of Murphy, guys who make a living watching and analyzing the game that he's a flat out a big, physical, shot blocking (ranks #3 in the league), top 3 or 4 D man on 90% of NHL teams. But go ahead and argue with every analyst because you figured out how to use your fingers on a keyboard and pull up CORSI; well done.

I agree, Corsi and analytics does not work in the NHL. There is a reason why the Leafs struggle to win in the playoffs, physicality and grit always win
