frees up another 2.15M
total cap space is ~4.2M, if rust will take a pay cut for that much then resign him for that

if Letang doesn't want to take a pay cut, let him walk. Sucks to see him go but winning is more important than loyalty. If he wants to stay he should be willing to take less to ensure another chance to win

Even if your assumptions play out, Rust is looking at something around 6M x 6, and even if the Pens had the cap space, that's not a great contract to have on the payroll.
