Doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh. If they are to move a LD it would be for scoring depth at forward, not another RD. If they can't sign Letang this summer I think this deal could be revisited.

No chance we're trading our leading scorer among defensemen for Joel Armia unless that draft pick is your own 2022 second.

Exactly, if Letang leaves, which is possible because there is rumors of him sasying he won't take a paycut, petry would take his spot and would fit in pittsburgh. But the return could be something else if pettersson is good. What about Matheson?

Maybe its a bit high for him, because our second would be live 33-35 overall.

Possible, although given Petry's age I actually think I would pass on him all together. If his regression this season is a combo of team play and age his contract could become a real anchor. Good idea, but not quiet sure the penguins would do this.

That's exactly my point. You Habs guys keep howling about Ben Chiarot being worth a first. (I see here that you think he's worth a first, a fourth and a roster d-man.) Here are some things to think about:

(1) Shattenkirk is 7-19=26 points so far; Chiarot is 5-4=9 points so far. Plus/minus is a gross, not a fine, measurement, but for what it's worth, Shattenkirk is plus 2 and Chiarot is minus 25 in fewer games.
(2) Shattenkirk's cap hit is $3.9 million; Chiarot's is $3.5 million.
(3) Shattenkirk is signed for another season, Chiarot is a UFA.
(4) Shattenkirk is a RhD; Chiarot is a LhD.

In short, there's no way that Ben Chiarot has more value than Kevin Shattenkirk.

No, the 33rd or 34th overall pick isn't too much for Shatty; the question is whether we'd let him go for that little.

U can't compare these too like this, Chariot is on the worst team in the league, he just can't have the points and the plus minus. U put the best dman in the league with the habs he would still be in the minus. Plus kempny is a cap dump from WSH because no, he is not a roster d-man he played in the ahl this season. The fourth is to take kempny and plus we take half of chariot's salary. Maybe my take on Shatt value is wrong but Chariot is definetly worth this if Savard got a similar package this year. My trade with the ducks maybe wrong, I agree, but the WSH trade for Chariot is, for me, very fair.

Idk. Matheson is having a better year than Pettersson and even though he has alot of term on his contract, he's playing great
