Devils - Canucks

Created by: Randominoe
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2022
Published: Feb. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm curious what Devils fans would give Vancouver in return for a package like this?

The way I see it, Canucks would be helping the Devils open their competitive window next season by taking on Tatar's negative value contract as well as trading them Garland who is already overplaying his contract in its first season.

I have submitted what I think to be fair value as a Canucks fan but I am excited to hear your feedback. Solid draft capital for the upcoming draft (including an upgraded 2nd-round pick from the one traded away for Garland/OEL) + a right-handed prospect in Chase Stillman (whose contract will slide twice so lots of time to develop into a Garland replacement?) + Gritsyuk who is playing his first full season in the KHL and lighting it up (Could be replaced by Foote if Canucks prefer him) + an RHD-prospect who is having a strong sophomore season in the AHL in Reilly Walsh.

This trade would be a big overpayment by the Devils. Gritsyuk is one of the best NHL affiliated prospects in the KHL and is making the Russian Olympic team at the age of 20. Walsh is the Devils best RD prospect, Stillman was a 1st round pick last year and is having a solid season.

Zacha+Foote+2nd would be a trade Devils would be comfortable doing, not anything much more than that

Well Vancouver takes this and runs so far into the mountains it'll take years to find them.

Canucks are not necessarily in the market for a top-9 left forward, with Podkolzin, Hoglander, Pettersson, Horvat, Pearson, Motte, Miller (despite the latter two likely getting traded) so Zacha doesn't do it for me personally. I could swap Foote in for Gritsyuk but Garland is worth way more than what you are proposing on his own, and on top of that, I am proposing us taking on Tatar's contract so I would be hoping to get closer to my initial proposal than what you offered.

Thanks for the response though, love hearing feedback.

And the Devils? They are getting Garland for four more years on a great contract and shedding an entire season of Tatar when their window should be opening (from my outside perspective).

Tatar isn't a negative asset. He's been good, though not great.
His cap doesn't hurt the Devils in any way whatsoever.

Then that's my bad haha, as an outside perspective I just saw his cap hit versus his production and assumed the Devils would want out of that heading into next season.

Kinda makes this entire ACGM obsolete lol

You are severely underestimating how good Arseni Gritsyuk can be. He is probably the 2nd best Devils prospect right now behind Luke Hughes. Yes ahead of Holtz, Mukhamadullin, Bahl, Stillman, etc.

Woah I had no idea he was above Holtz from a Devils perspective, swap Foote and Gritsyuk then what do you think?

Take out Stillman and probably would consider it.

Makes sense. Then a defensive prospect? Because I doubt Devils give up Gritsyuk any time soon
