Wilson is notoriously cheap on RFA signings when they don’t have arbitration rights, ferraro should be 3.8 ish Dahlen should be 3 mil both 2-3 year contracts.
that should give us enough to resign Barabanov.

Why would he stay?

Family maybe
San Jose is pretty nice
Lots of reasons
But also lots of reason for him to leave

Tomas said recently he is having fun playing hockey again. The team is on the right track. Contender? No. But they are playing the right way and have some promising pieces coming up including the best prospect from the 2021 draft (not just my opinion)

I think he will stay.

Why exactly are the sharks trading a puck moving defenseman for a career ahler who has 3 points is 30 some odd ahl games? That’s an awful trade

You seem to be missing the point of the trade Mr Grumpy. Simek alone cannot be traded, he will need a sweetener. Middleton, Kny and Mario are going to be the future and present of our LD with Hatakka just behind. Kniazev is good but he is a long-term project and always has been. Look at the bigger picture before spewing brash judgements.

You will see I didn't even sign Speers. Getting rid of Simek and a guy that's 3-4 years away if at all. Pretty good deal.

But he’s also not an idiot (i think). Surely he sees that the division is really soft, and that might have to a lot with the early success. They got off to that hot start, 5-0 right? Since then they’ve won 17 game and lost 24. Not exactly stellar. Anaheim, LA, and Calgary are legitimately on the way up, and vegas isn’t going anywhere. One has to presume that the oilers have to figure it out almost by accident at some point. Then theres the sharks with a with I want to say 34.5 tied up between four contracts that are not aging well and have a lot of term left.

If he wants to compete, he leaves. If he likes his life where he is, and values that over winning, he stays.

No that’s an awful deal. You are banking on a Middleton and Knyzhov and that’s a big question mark. Middleton has only been decent this season and Knyzhov won’t play this year and has no guarantee he will be the player he was. If you really want to move cap there are easier ways to do that. It’s not a brash judgment and it isn’t spewing anything that doesnt make sense. It makes literally zero sense to move a little over $2 mil in cap for a top 4 puck moving defenseman plus a pick.

I agree the deal isn't great, but throw in Labanc and now I like it smile

Kniazev, although an ok prospect, is a pretty low price for a sweetner

A 2nd round puck moving defenseman is a high price. A 6th round defensive defenseman Hatakka would be a low price to pay

Sharks are actually high in Kinazev and so is a few scouts, but he is still 1-2 years out.
i would prefer to move a forward rather than a decent D prospect if possible but i get your thought here

You say this as if Labanc has value. He has 20 points in his last 110 games going back to last season. He has zero value.

Knyazev, since his draft has been known as a long-term project defenseman in the same vein as Julius Bergman. GLarson never can take off the teal glasses and see the bigger picture.
