Description

Based off of rumours, sounds like NJ wants a forward with term and VAN are willing to listen on almost everyone. With that in mind, seems like NJ and VAN are good trade partners.

I might get a lot of heat from my fellow Devils fans but I wouldn’t be against trading Ty Smith for a forward like Garland. NJ has a lot of young left handed D prospects along with Siegenthaler and Graves. I feel like Smith could be expendable in a scenario like this.

VAN is a getting a good young, controllable D for their future while getting a top 9 forward to help replace some of Garland’s production.

The only way you get Garland is if Severson is coming back with an extension in place. Otherwise no deal

I think Reilly Walsh could also be a good piece to get back in a trade instead

That would require the trade to be done in the off-season. Honestly, who knows how either team will be built by then.

I wouldn't want Severson; I think he is just outside of our targeted age range. Apparently the Canucks are interested in 20-23 year old players.

Smith as the primary piece coming back doesn't work for the Canucks. We already have Hughes as a smaller LHD who fills his role and Rathbone who is the same player as Smith playstyle wise. Smaller LHD are the last thing we need.

I've offered this one before and other Devils fans have been receptive: Garland for 1st 2023 (top-8 protected) + McCarthy + maybe something else (mid round pick or B- prospect)
