I understand that tonight we’re running with 11F, 7D.
But after, when Simmonds rejoins the team, I think it’d be interesting to see this tested for a bit longer.
We’ve been winning with Sandin - Holl, why not let it keep rolling for a bit?
Let Muzzin get some easier matchups for a little, and re-evaluate in a bit.
Sandin gets a bigger opportunity to improve, and maybe Muzzin becomes his old self. Or at least similar to.
It’s not a permanent move. It’s not like it really hurts the team. Why not test out different things now?
This is just an idea, so please leave your thoughts below.
Good or bad, doesn’t matter.
There's no time. Holl has been playing much better since the break ended and Dubas needs to see how Muzzin and him fare before the deadline to know what he needs to acquire. To get an idea of that, they need a decent sample size of games.
I have no problem running Sandin out there more regularly-- but I think you want Muzzin to get back to playing the hard minutes with Holl as much as possible, as soon as possible.
I think Sandin-Holl could best thrive as a 3rd pair. Young puck moving D plus vet defender against bottom 6 competition could be an unreal 3rd pair. Then if they go out and get another RD to play with Muzzin, you're 100% comfortable pairs 1 through 3. You could have a matchup advantage at every position against almost any team
