It's not even a terrible contract, he's a good 3rd pair defenseman

Jets have a better one in DeMelo

Demelo is better I won't argue that, but the Jets have to do at least a retool if they miss the playoffs, taking Hamonic at 50% retained would be a good place to start, and maybe moving off a guy like Nate Schmidt who has gone cold lately

Not going to work with the Jets, selling Copp will probably free up enough cash to sign Dubois long term. Any proceeds from a Schmidt trade and Stastny coming off the books can be used to fix the 3rd and 4th lines.

Hamonic could have been signed by the Jets in the past and they passed on him. Since then his play has declined and he is more injury prone.

He isn't more injury prone, he just got unlucky and got wacked by Marchand, and his play is still credible enough to be a 3rd pair defender

Once again, the Jets have a better 3rd pairing defender already. No need to keep trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Minds can change, and the Jet's aren't exactly in an ideal position heading into the trade deadline

We have enough depth defensemen.

Schmidt has been good not great for us. Hamonic is completely unnecessary
