EDM won't pay a 1st rounder for Talbot.

Couple of things, don’t think you get a first for talbs

Kahkonen is probably a little steep on the resign there, more in the 3 yr 1.2-1.5M range

Cap is estimated to go up to 82.5 next season

Talbot likely won't get a 1st so it would make more sense to keep him. We also have the money for that: Kähkönen probably gets 500K less and you already have 2 million. Add in that Jones would go down to Iowa and we have a tad over 3,3 million in cap space. 7,5 million is also quite a lot for Fiala, so we can afford Talbot's 3,66 million dollar deal quite well.

Talbot doesn't get a 1st. Maybe a 2nd but only after free agency if a team wiffs on a goalie in free agency.

I don't see a team giving up many assets before free agency since there are some pretty good goalies going to free agency. If the Wild do sign Fiala before free agency opens other teams will take advantage of the cap situation and you probably won't get much for Talbot.

I dont see Kahkonen getting less with the numbers he put up. Nedjalkovic is a comparable. I actually think this is low for a 3 year deal and would be quite a bargain.

My personal preference would be to move Dumba and keep the Talbot/Kaapo tandem for next season, but totally agree that Talbot could be moved for more like a 2nd.

I think 2 million for 2/3 years of Kaapo is fair. Good 1B next year to take the bulk of the starts with a new vet if Talbot is traded.

The Athletic's Dom "Impossible Surname" Lusczyczyzyn gives him a market value of 1,3 million. Juuse Saros also signed a 3x1,5 a few years back.

The Saros deal was an absolute steal. There are a lot more examples of goalies making a lot more. Georgiev, Nedjalkovic, Hill, Samsonov, Hart, Demko.

I'm not saying 2Mx3 is impossible but it's already on the cheaper side for him.

1.5Mx3 would be a homerun signing not something you would expect for a young guy putting up a 0.921 sv%.

1.3M for a 1 year deal? That number just seems random to me. What are his comparables?

I checked his comparables. They best comparables overall would be Grubauer in his age 25-season (1,5 million), Markström in his age 25-season (1,55 million) and Linus Ullmark in his age 25-season (1,3 million). All were 1 or 2 year deals. If we are looking for 3 years, the comparables are the aforementioned Saros-deal (1,3 million as a 23-yo), Collin Delia (1 million as a 25-yo) and Jonathan Quick (1,8 million as a 23-yo). Even if we include a bit of inflation to the pot, Kähkönen should be locked up for under 2 million.

Okay those 1 and 2 year deals are fair comparables and I could definitely see Kahkonen taking a 1.5Mx1 year deal. Although Kahkonen actually has better stats than Markstrom and Ullmark when they signed.

Delia is a bad comparable he had about a third the number of games and posted a significantly worse save percentage. Quicks deal is ~2.5Mx3 with cap inflation. Saros' deal was a steal and an outlier.

Georgiev contract is a good comparable. Similar number of games and similar save percentage (Kahkonen slightly better).
