**** forgot about that part! Altought, its unlikely that all trade go through - most retention however are done by the end of the year.

Well Dallas might want a top 4 RHD after Klingberg leaves - Petry is a top 4 RHD don't @ me.

If I am reading it right, Habs retain on Chiarot and Klingberg at the 2022 TDL and subsequently those retentions end the first day of FA (typically July 1). Habs then retain on 2 separate players during the summer unless the EDM deal is made at the 2022 TDL then yes you're right you can't retain on more then 3 contracts. However, if it is made at the TDL do you really think Keith waives his NMC ? Highly unlikely. That makes that trade a wash. Only way it happens is during the offseason where the team acquiring him buys him out.

Dude not anymore he isn't. I wouldn't trade Hakanpaa for Petry 1for 1. Especially considering he makes 1.5 compared to 6.25 🙄

Hakanpaa is better defensively and is currently out producing Petry. Food for thought

Thats a b*llsh*t argument considering the context...

but I didn't target Hakanpaa per say - I threw him in as a body to put on the RHD

Yes he was a 40 point guy last year with Weber taking all the tough minutes. Now he gets the tough minutes and the production has fallen off. Sure the Stars can play him on the second pair where he could find success while Miro takes all the tough minutes, but why spend 6.25 million dollars for a fourth defenseman who’s best years are behind him??

Well he is a RHD puck moving defenseman... most of them shouldn't play ALL the tough minutes... In petry's case there is beer-gut Savard and Wideman... and he's been paired with scrubs all season long.

Make no mistake - he would be back to his 40+pts season with any other contending team - 6.25M is not that expensive when you look at the price tag that comes with a PMD. He's like Gio, he still has a lot of good hockey left in him.

realisticly, I wouldn't want to trade him - his wife will eventually come back to Canada (most measure are coming down). A long offseason will do him wonders.

That’s all fine and fair but don’t call my argument bs when I’m stating facts. Hakanpaa is better defensively (not a shot at Petry, pmd typically aren’t as good in their own end). And Hakanpaa does have more points. I never said anything about their situations being equal or anything else. I get it. He hasn’t played in an ideal situation with high end players as much this year. But as an offensive defenseman, his value is his offense and there hasn’t been any. If he stayed on and did better next year or turned things around on another team I wouldn’t be at all surprised. But if Montreal is selling him right now then his value is very low. As I’ve said, any GM that gives good value for him right now is a fool because if he doesn’t turn things around (very possible at his age) then you’re probably looking for a new job
