Is it? Mayfield is a solid 2nd pair guy on an extremely cheap contract.... If Chariot can return a 1st this deadline there's no reason Mayfield cannot return this.

Hold up there, my friend. Mayfield is a serviceable 3rd pairing guy who can jump to the 2nd pair when needed, but he's not a legit 2nd pairing dman. I know he's playing above that right now, but he shouldn't be and all his stats, both regular and underlying, speak to that. Yes, he's on a cheap contract, but he's not worth more than a 3rd IMO.

Let's wait and see what Chiarot gets. MTL WANTS a 1st. That doesn't mean they'll get it and I'll straight up say Chiarot makes Mayfield look like a Norris candidate. Chiarot is abysmal.

Mayfield is getting paid the amount a good 6th man gets paid… 2 2nds and a roster player is worse than giving up a leafs first which is gonna be like a 28th overall pick

To be fair I'm always going to be slightly biased as I watch Mayfield every game... I am probably overvaluing but the trade does not seem that out of place considering the current market for defensemen.
