Created by: User123409871234
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2022
Published: Feb. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Since the Wild can take on $11M in cap at the deadline and growing at this point, with Dumba on IR, I think this team could contend for a cup, before the buyouts really hurt. Wild could potentially route some of Stephenson's money somewhere for a pick or 2

I guess I am unfamiliar with the ask, but an A prospect, and an NHL ready winger on an ELC plus the picks isn't close?

Guerin wouldn't do two of this deal! It's been made clear he's not parting with 1st for rentals much less you giving up o'Rourk. Fred whether we like it or not is not getting taken of fiala and boldy line. Also you are trading for Reilly Smith to play what role exactly? Minnesota isn't taking him on to and his cap to play on 4th line when nico is already being benched because we have too many good 4th liners
(Dumba isn't on IR: looks like he will be back after Wild's 4 game Canadien stop)

Yeah he is definitely not an A level prospect right now. Beckman's value isn't particularly high either.

Chychrun will cost similar to Eichel

I like the anger and feistiness, but Reilly Smith is objectively better than any player on our 4th line, and taking him on as part of a deal to get Stephenson, who clearly you are not aware is one of the best $ for $ value centers in the league with a MV nearing $9M locked up at 2.75 for the next 3 years. Sturm is walking after this year, the wild do not have $2.5-$3M to pay him. The only person who I was even close to hesitant to bench in this situation was Dewar because he is an RFA and plays the 4th line role that the wild want really well, but Smith is an absolute upgrade in every facet of the game over Dewar other than age. Taking on the cap is adding another asset to the deal from our side to get Stephenson. O'Rourke is also the 4th ranked defensive prospect in the pipeline, why is losing him going to be do or die for this team?

I am definitely going to side with the people who get paid and call him an A prospect, but if the asking price is similar to Eichel's then yeah this isn't enough.

I've had a Chychrun base deal as a 1st + Lambos/ROR + Marat K. Basically AZ gets their pick of D-man (not Addison) and FWD (not Rossi/Boldy) prospects along with a 1st.

Because relationships matter and our future cap. It's really not about being feisty or anything, but we don't need to be playing a 5mil player on 4th line where he wouldn't be happy and would lead to chemistry issues. Look what happened yesterday, bjustad returned, sturm benched. Any rental that is worth a 1st wouldn't happen because our gm made it clear to us he's not interested in parting with 1st or prospects for rentals. Also freddy as much we may not like it, dean has no interest in taking him off boldy and fiala pine because he protects fiala from himself by getting back on D.

None of this makes sense to me

1) Future cap - Reilly Smith's deal is one year, he comes off the books and walks - Stephenson is a huge asset going forward at $2.75M for a first line potential center
2) Bjugstad and Sturms MVs and Contributions equate to 2.7M, Smith's 6.1M
3) If you are really worried about the defensive aspect, Giroux is a heck of a lot better defensively than Gaudreau so move him between Fiala Boldy line then you put Stephenson on the 4th with Smith, they play together in Vegas, chemistry is there, Duhaime can play with anyone all he does is skate in a straight line and is responsible as can be on the ice, finishing checks, getting back on the back-check, etc.
4) Chemistry - These players want nothing more than to win a cup, the only players that I would even potentially be worried about upsetting are the ones in the pross box

Reilly Smith wouldn't be happy playing on 4th line. A player the caliber of his would ask out. Also sturm, and bjustad are cheaper and better for our 4th line than a player whose become a top 6 player, at worse top 9. Our 3rd line of greenway, foligno and Eriksson ek isn't getting broken up.

As for claude: it's all about the cost. When Russo and Guerin himself has spoken about not wanting to part with 1st round picks and top prospects, or prospects for rentals. About how he's willing to use to 2nd round pick because we are getting one back.

If ownership is 100% behind spending up to the cap, why would we care about something being "cheaper"

Never said the 3rd line was being touched, its the best defensive line in hockey, so why would you touch it.

If you don't go in on Giroux and keep Gaudreau, whatever, thats not the biggest deal, but getting him does give them a better chance at the cup this year, which is realistically their best chance over the next 3
