My friend brought this up to me the other day. After some consideration, I see the all-around logic for both teams which are trending in opposite directions. The question is would Fleury agree to it???

Fleury would do it. I'm not sure CHI would though. It's an underpayment considering TOR is dumping multiple years of contracts. If you took out Holl it would be a possibility. If you changed to 2nd to a first, also a possibility.

But I'd rather let Soup run with it and trade those guys elsewhere. That way we know if an extension is the right move, and we can pull in a cheaper back up.

We need to remember when rebuilding a team still needs to meet the cap floor. Holl is a serviceable defenceman that can take minutes... ineffectively but isn't that the aim. Also, Mrázek is reasonably priced with term and will allow for the development of a replacement. Sure you might be thinking I see blue and white but this is not that far off. Is it?

They'll have no problem getting to the floor. They have 30mil tied up in Toews, Kane and Jones next year. As a team they only have 20mil in cap space to fill 12 spots. I don't think they'll struggle to get to the floor. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to move those guys, but CHI is in more of a retool than rebuild. Holl is not serviceable. He was last year, but this year he has been brutal. Mrazek has value at that contract, but he's really hit and miss, but in a tandem situation he works just fine.

Interesting, so it’s not just Leaf fans who think the Denial is a river. Trust me I understand your pain. Your team had its cycle at the top. Prolonging the inevitable is a pain that darkens one’s soul. Either way I respect your passion for your team.

47 for me. Don't tell anyone but it might be my fault for the playoff failures. I was a chef for the team from 1999-2004 and I quit that job after the last game against the flyers in the 2004 playoffs. True story!
