They took on cap for you, took on pretty meh players earning that cap for you, used their only retention slot remaining for you which you even described lowers who they can make deals with for Kessel and got very little in return for any of it. But first round picks should always be on the table for competing teams, look at Pittsburgh they trade there's almost every year. The end of the first rarely ever pans out.
