Can they not? They've got a huge glut of RDs. Durzi can probably easily step into Roy's spot

Completely different style of player. Roy's defensive game is light years ahead of anyone else in the system not named Drew Doughty. He doesn't bring the offensive game the others do, but you can't have every single defenseman on your team be an offensive-minded player.

Until Brock Faber is ready for 20+ minutes a night at the NHL level, I sincerely doubt Matt Roy is traded. So think about 2 years from now.

In the meantime, Sean Walker is likely the guy that the Kings can risk moving because his game is directly similar to what Sean Durzi brings.

I'd be okay with switching Roy with Walker but I would probably want the pick upgraded

I doubt a 1st round pick is on the table in a trade for JT Miller. And the difference between Walker and Roy (granted, Walker isn't healthy at the moment) isn't a jump from the 2nd to 1st round. Maybe adding the 2nd or 3rd rounder from 2023 would be palatable for the Kings. However, I think in a tradeoff for that the Kings would be willing to eat more of JT's salary, if not all of it, so Vancouver isn't retaining.

But I'm not sure that gets it done from a Vancouver perspective, which is why I don't really think LA and Vancouver are ideal trade partners. Vancouver wants 1st round picks, and the Kings aren't at the point in their rebuild where they're willing to give them up outside of a name like Chychrun. And maybe this is just my perception, but I don't view JT Miller as someone at that level, even with his real solid season. Again, that's probably just personal bias/opinion.

Durzi and Roy aren't the same type of defenseman. Roy is a defense-first two-way guy. While Durzi is an offensive-minded puck moving guy. They are not interchangeable.

The replacement for Roy in the system is Brock Faber, but he's still a season or two away.

I'm not a fan of trading for J. T. Miller unless the main asset going back is Alex Iafallo. We have enough LWs on the roster as it is. Like my friend @PuckLuck_77, I don't really see a good synergy between our roster and Vancouver's. What we really need is a #1 LD, and the Canucks aren't about to trade us Quinn Hughes. Adding Miller just pushes Iafallo down to the third line (if he's still on the team), and then we have trouble finding playing time for Grundstrom, Turcotte, etc.

Miller without retention for Iafallo, Grans or Spence, and a second-round pick is about the most I'd invest in this idea.

Maybe thats a fair price for Miller but the Kings aren't one player away from a cup especially after taking away a top 4 Dman. Pass.
