Giroux and Motte

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2022
Published: Mar. 14, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Avs have projected deadline capspace of $1.48m which would cover the -$1.318m capspace here with $162k to spare.

It's a 24 man roster but Landeskog and Girard will be on LTIR for 4 weeks. In the last 2 weeks of the season if/when Girard/Landeskog get activated one player would need to be on IR (quite likely), otherwise one of Byram/Newhook would simply need to be 'sent down' to the AHL (on paper) to get the roster to 23 players (maybe they rotate on and off the roster to alternate games down the stretch).

There was a report today that it would take more than a late 2nd to acquire Motte. Personally I feel like a 3rd is fair value but seems like the Canucks would rather keep him

He's a pending UFA so the Canucks don't really have control of the situation. If a 3rd is the best offer and they pass on it they could lose him for nothing. Maybe they see value in him being a self-rental though but playoffs seem unlikely.

Yeah I saw something saying they could use Motte as a self rental. Personally I would move him for the best offer at the deadline

They’re like 2pts out of a playoff spot with a game in hand over Vegas and Canucks are one of the hottest teams in the west. How do the playoffs seem unlikely?
I think Canucks keep pretty much everybody and maybe even add at the deadline

Canucks have more control than you think. Organization loves the player and vice versa. Huge part of the dressing room and now 2 iterations of coaching/management have valued him very highly.
That said, he's widely overrated by Vancouver fans in terms of on-ice results. A 2nd is probably too much but probably what it will take. One of those guys that's probably worth more to us than to anyone else.

Right now most likely he stays and re-signs. Wouldn't even be surprised to see him traded and re-signed in the summer.
