Fixing PK and getting Hughes a long term partner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>I certainly hope he has this kinda value if he's traded. I'm just not holding onto hope that he's going to be all that sought after after the season he had.</div></div>
I'd rather part with Podkolzin than a future 1st.
CBJ also has to think about carving out NHL minutes for Jiricek. Imagine he would step right into that 2nd pair spot.

I wouldn't trade Podz for Peeke.
Probably going to have to give up a 3rd or 4th for Forbort even though it is a cap dump for the Bruins.</div></div>
Yeah I think I'd do a 4th but not a 3rd.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>If it's a silly proposal like Podkolzin for Peeke you kinda just have to take it. I'm not 100% on Texier as a long term Jacket so he'd fit in nicely on the roster with Marchenko, Voronkov, and Chinakhov if Tex decides he'd like to play elsewhere in the future.</div></div>
It's steep but I really think that's the going rate for RHD + good + big + young + can skate. He's a stylistic fit with VAN plus he's cost controlled for 3 more years.
Jarmo is as shrewd as they get, I don't see him giving any of his RD away for scraps (OK maybe Gudbranson).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Nice work, seems like reasonable moves.
I would say though that CBJ fans are always mentioning that they have a ton of wingers, so maybe the Jackets wouldn't even ask for Podkolzin. Probably should bring Bear back.
Isn't Pearson's career pretty much over?</div></div>
Nothing's been reported recently on Pearson, but everyone's acting like he's dead. Team, doctors and NHLPA will do everything they can to get him back. Also hand and not core/muscle issue, he can still skate and stay in shape. I don't think we can assume he's on LTIR this year yet.
I like Bear but the injury would give me pause. I like Peeke's size in our top 4 better and as a fit with Hughes, a trade for him wouldn't leave us enough $ for Bear without another move.
Columbus has lots of wingers I just don't see many good ones (on the roster or coming) after Gaudreau and Laine. They will want Johnson at C long term I think. Most of their top prospects are D or C other than Dumais.

First contention year
So we buy out a boat anchor contract and turn around and acquire another one? I think we're missing a 1st round pick from NSH. Johansen had 28 points last year, 0.5 ppg.
I don't hate the idea of weaponizing our new cap space for some future assets which we badly need, but I don't think enough people have watched Johansen play in the last 3-4 years. He is incredibly slow, and if poeple though Miller was bad defensively the last year or two, they are in for a treat with RyJo.

So you want to clear cap huh? Hmm. If only there were a PPG player on a big contract who other teams will want but is going to be a gigantic drain on the roster in 3 - 4 years.... hmmm.
Can't think of anyone. Guess I'll grab a beer. It's Miller time!</div></div>
No one is taking Miller's contract

Trade a 2nd with mysie before dumping demmer</div></div>
I mean we were a bottom 5 team this year with Demko for a long stretch...
Look at the playoffs. None of the top teams remaining have elite starters, save for Dallas. What they do have is an excellent top 4 defense to create an environment in which their goalie doesn't have to be superhuman every night. I love Demmer but I'm not interested in watching us run the same **** defense back every year and hoping Demko can bail us out.

Off Season
Lifelong Vancouver fan. You're not far off here.
OEL buyout makes our books a mess but saves the owner millions long term. Decision is between whether Tocchet/Gonchar/Foote can rehabilitate the asset or management deems OEL incompatible with competing short term, which is the only and stated goal. I lean rehab for now.
Boeser's agent has been trying to facilitate a trade for a while. He's not an Allvin/Pittsburgh model winger, skates like he has bricks for feet. He's produced well down the stretch here but his defensive numbers will make it hard for a team (like Carolina, who'd otherwise be a decent fit) to swallow his $6.65m cap hit. Not sure if they'll be able to find a dance partner.
Knowing our ownership & management, your $10m in cap space would be spent immediately. An OEL buyout would all but guarantee a big Gavrikov contract. Wouldn't hate it, especially if they can find a home for Hughes on the right side.

Giroux and Motte

Canucks have more control than you think. Organization loves the player and vice versa. Huge part of the dressing room and now 2 iterations of coaching/management have valued him very highly.
That said, he's widely overrated by Vancouver fans in terms of on-ice results. A 2nd is probably too much but probably what it will take. One of those guys that's probably worth more to us than to anyone else.
Right now most likely he stays and re-signs. Wouldn't even be surprised to see him traded and re-signed in the summer.

Miller For Filler Plus Other Moves
You're aware Miller is better than every player on the Leafs except for 2 right? Maybe 0 or 1 come playoff time.
Filler is right. This is a top 15 NHL forward, incredible contract for this year and next, plays all positions and situations.
Canucks hang up and laugh at that offer.

Miller won't go for anything less than a 1st + top prospect. We traded a 1st & 3rd for him to begin with and his value's skyrocketed since then.
PPG player, heavy, plays wing and centre, PP and PK, amazing contract for 2 more years. Avs balking at a 1st would be laughable when there will be 5+ teams lining up for his services.

$6m for a top pairing dman is below market value, and a 14 point 3rd liner who's been working his way down the lineup for a year and a half, and a 3rd pairing dman aren't the premium assets you think they are.

It's not "a writer", it's Elliotte Friedman. And interest from 5+ other teams has been reported by 3-4 other reputable sources lol
You obviously misunderstand Schmidt if you think he's a cap dump. He's a legit top pairing dman who crushed the toughest deployment in the NHL his last year in Vegas. Didn't fit in a **** defensive system here, unlike what you have under Cassidy. He'd be a top pairing guy for you.

Would you not go Newhook-Kadri-Burakovsky for a terrific 2nd line? Cause then you have Nuke and Danault for the best shutdown 3rd line in the league. I like the Danault fit a lot actually.
