Fixing PK and getting Hughes a long term partner

Created by: Blenchers
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2023
Published: Jun. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Canucks add 2 elite PKers in Forbort and Suter. Add a healthy Mikheyev and Peeke and you have a rock solid 1st unit.

Forbort deal helps Boston out cap wise.

Suter deal is a little higher than EH's model. Maybe it takes $3m to get him. Can also fill in as 2C in a pinch.

Columbus has too many RD but they're not going to give away a big 25 year old with solid underlying numbers for free. Podkolzin (#10 overall 2019) is a lot to give up but I could see Allvin doing this to get Hughes a long term partner finally. Podkolzin also played on a line and had chemistry with Marchenko in the KHL which I imagine would interest Columbus.

One more year of Myers and then we can go about fixing the bottom pair...

Nice work, seems like reasonable moves.

I would say though that CBJ fans are always mentioning that they have a ton of wingers, so maybe the Jackets wouldn't even ask for Podkolzin. Probably should bring Bear back.

Isn't Pearson's career pretty much over?

If it's a silly proposal like Podkolzin for Peeke you kinda just have to take it. I'm not 100% on Texier as a long term Jacket so he'd fit in nicely on the roster with Marchenko, Voronkov, and Chinakhov if Tex decides he'd like to play elsewhere in the future.

Love the Suter signing. Maybe 1 year too long for me personally but I get it.

I wouldn't trade Podz for Peeke.

Probably going to have to give up a 3rd or 4th for Forbort even though it is a cap dump for the Bruins.

Nothing's been reported recently on Pearson, but everyone's acting like he's dead. Team, doctors and NHLPA will do everything they can to get him back. Also hand and not core/muscle issue, he can still skate and stay in shape. I don't think we can assume he's on LTIR this year yet.

I like Bear but the injury would give me pause. I like Peeke's size in our top 4 better and as a fit with Hughes, a trade for him wouldn't leave us enough $ for Bear without another move.

Columbus has lots of wingers I just don't see many good ones (on the roster or coming) after Gaudreau and Laine. They will want Johnson at C long term I think. Most of their top prospects are D or C other than Dumais.

It's steep but I really think that's the going rate for RHD + good + big + young + can skate. He's a stylistic fit with VAN plus he's cost controlled for 3 more years.

Jarmo is as shrewd as they get, I don't see him giving any of his RD away for scraps (OK maybe Gudbranson).

Yeah I think I'd do a 4th but not a 3rd.

I certainly hope he has this kinda value if he's traded. I'm just not holding onto hope that he's going to be all that sought after after the season he had.

I'd rather part with Podkolzin than a future 1st.

CBJ also has to think about carving out NHL minutes for Jiricek. Imagine he would step right into that 2nd pair spot.

I don't understand trading Podkolzin. If we are moving a young piece then Hoglander makes more sense.

I'm not convinced they'll trade anyone just for the sake of trading them. They can put Blankenburg in Cleveland since he's waiver exempt and then carry 8 D until they know if Jiricek is going to stick or not. If he doesn't then they could have a solid 7 on the team of Werenski, Severson, Provorov, Boqvist, Bean, Gudbranson, and Peeke with Blankenburg as the first AHL call up. If Jiricek does make the team then they can carry 8 for a while until either someone gets hurt or a team has a need for a RD mid season.

Yeah, that's true. If it's offered they would take it, but one would hope Vancouver management is asking what the price would be on a player like Peeke that is a potential surplus.
