Marchand definitely missing. Good news is i don’t think you have a 33 year old. If you want a right shot d man thats 32, doughty is 100x better than carlson.

Over the past five years, the only two players that have put up more points than marchand both play in edmonton.

Obviously marchand is a country mile better defensively. There’s no comparison anymore.

It's your stat...but it's not accurate... Since the 17/18 season Marchand is 5th, and Kane is 4th. Since 16/17 Marchand is 4th, Kane is 3rd.
Sooo.. not sure.

Marchand is a great talent. But I keep Kane ahead of him, today.

Maybe it was points per game. I remember Friedman and marek were going over it on 32 thoughts

Ah. Figured it out. It was phrased, “the last five seasons.” So they meant the last five completed seasons. So 16/17-20/21. Marchand is third. Kane is fourth. As mentioned, Marchand “all around,” game is obviously head and shoulders above Kane’s.

since 16/17, Kane is still ahead of Marchand... maybe it's pts per game, or not including this year.

Either way. Today, I take Kane over Marchand.
Marchand is a great player, he has also had the benefit of always having great line-mates.

Just my opinion. No Chicago or Boston fan bias.

From 2016-17 to 2020-21 (read my previous post, its very clear), marchand is 3rd in points, Kane is 4th. Marchand is also 3rd in points per game. Kane is 8th.

My apologies- I misread your stat.
But, this isn't a list of last years best players. So this year needs to be included, if not isolated.

I mean its not like I’m asking you to count only road games on tuesdays in january. It’s a five year sample size. Every season has peaks and valleys for every player, so there is some sense to be made by looking at complete seasons.

I'm only nitpicking-- just seems more like Boston Bias than a legit comparison. Both are elite-- no argument that Marchand belongs in this conversation.

I get that, but its kinda tough to make the case to the contrary, no?

That kind of scoring, outpacing everyone except for McDavid and Draisaitl. Where’s the hole in the game?

Defensive? Nope. Elite defensive winger playing big PK minutes, taking tough minutes. Leads the league in +/- over a five year period.
Offensive production? Nope. As mentioned, top three in the league.
Sure, but were they all just assists for pastrnak goals? Nope. 6th in the NHL in goals over that stretch.
Okay, but was it all PP? 5th in even strength points.
Is it just that he’s getting way more minutes? 3rd in the NHL in points per 60 over that five year stretch.

I just can’t see a coherent argument for kane, though kane has of course had the better career.

Extend your criteria for a season on either side, and Kane moves back ahead. He won the Art Ross the year previous. Their offensive output is very similar.

I'm not arguing against his production-- But Kane has been unquestionably the best, most valuable player on his team. I think playing with HOF Bergeron has helped BM in EVERY facet of the game.

You can make an argument for mcavoy being the bruins most important player, but marchand has unquestionably been the bruins best forward, and the bruins haven’t sucked.
