Flames next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Sorry but I don't like any of this
The chances of Matthew Phillips (who play RW, not Centre) & Nic Meloche re-signing with CGY are slim to none, since they were't used in the NHL this season
Duehr probably signs for the minimum, similar to Ruzicka to improve his chances of sticking on the NHL Roster. I think a Bigger Meaner RD, like Luke Schenn or Justin Holl or Trading for Jani Hakanpaa would be better than Stecher and if we move Tanev, we should sign Connor Clifton, Kevin Shattenkirk or Matt Dumba for under $5mil/yr
Vladar, Kylington and Tanev are worth far more than you're asking for here and Jokiharju & Podkolzin do not appeal to me at all whatseoever and Picks won't help us at all for years. We need NHL Ready Prospects or Players we can re-tool with, otherwise we already have most of the pieces we need in-house, we just need them to step-up and perform better</div></div>
If we decided Justin Holl was the guy for us that would be concerning. Matthew Phillips and Meloche not wanting to sign makes sense I would just like to see them, especially Phillips, play for us so thats wishful thinking on my part.

Tanev is one of the better shutdown defenceman in the league when he is healthy and from what i've seen (limited amounts) the sabres could use a solid defensive defenceman. If not to the sabres I'm sure there is a team out there that would want him.

Flames Playoff push
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>Andersson's not being Traded, not for just Bjorkstrand anyways. Further to dickie_boon, Bjorkstrand should bring more than a 3rd & 4th, but not a Rasmus Andersson
It's extremely difficult to find & replace a Top-Pairing Right Shot RD on a Sweet Contract like Rasmus has, so he's very Valuable >>> Bjorkstrand</div></div>
I definetely overvalued him, just as a flames fan I worry about making lopsided trades in our favour. Either bjorkstrand or burakovsky would be good additions I think, whatever the price for one of them may be

Flames try to stay competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>OK let say he is traded. No reason why the Flames can't be competitive even with Tkachuk and Gaudreau gone. Just spend that 18m that had been allowed for those two wisely.
Certainly a team via trade isn't going to give up a whole lot, unless Tkachuk is signed long term. But if the trade as proposed went down, the Flames are still a playoff team, and next year with non value contracts Monahan and Lucic off the books, Flamers could reload immediately.</div></div>
Yeah the whole point of the moves i made were to stay competitive. I tried to follow the direction i think the Flames management will go, and unless we sign Kadri I don't really see us being huge spenders this free agency, especially with most of the big names off the market already. I like your point about next year with lucic and monahan off the books, I definetly think we can make some moves

I don't think Calgary would or should do that trade, overpay for one year of Kane when we really won't be in contention this year IMO

UFAs come and go all the time.....why is should anyone think Tkachuk (or Gaudreau) would be any different. Funny how homer fans get upset if one of their own leave via UFA, but are OK with signing "other teams" UFA....like Markstrom, Coleman, and Tanev.</div></div>
In all the reports I've seen it seems as if a trade is imminent

Agreed, I just don't see us resigning Monahan whereas I could easily see sutter wanting to bring Lucic back on a cheap deal for that 4th line. What do you think it would cost to move monahan then? A third or 4th?

I really like Kylington's game</div></div>
I think he is easily worth a second, if we were to sign and trade him I could see him going for a second, and maybe a later round pick. Or a good but not great prospect and a mid to later round pick. I do think if he develops his defensive game further he could be worth much more, but as of right now with his average defence that is his worth. I would rather keep him though.

I read a report from awhile ago that ottawa was looking around monahan and brannstrom or Thomson seemed to be the target, this is all as a flames fan so obviously I wanted the flames to win, but I agree i don't really think the values match.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>The problem you run into with Kylington is that he has been in the organization for so long that next year is his last RFA eligible contract, a 3 year deal only buys one season of UFA, if you sign 1 year at a lower number if is an opportunity for both Kylington and the Flames to get a better gauge on the situation before signing to term. It also means that regardless, Monahan and Lucic are off the books and there is more flexibility for a bigger cap hit if her earns it.</div></div>
Yeah thats a fair take, im hoping he'll continue to improve and the 3.1 mill price tag will look like a steal, but long term your idea makes more sense.

I also think the mangiapane contract is a little high, but from the reports I was reading this was around the average. Kylington is having a solid year, and if he wants to stay for a medium length term I think this is reasonable. I don't see Lucic waving either, and he is having a solid year just in terms of cap space issues getting rid of him would be beneficial.

Could very well be, just since Arizona is taking many bad contracts for seconds and thirds, unlike carolina in 2019 getting marleau, so the price might not be as high. I dont see us trading our first for 2023 though so maybe adding on more middle round picks?
