Description
Used outside sources to estimate the contracts, whether Johnny re-signs with us or not I'm not sure, if he were to come back a deal like this is what I can see him signing. His performance against Edmonton was indicative of his playoff performance in recent years, which is underwhelming from his regular season. That being said resigning him should be a priority of ours. Sutter often goes 11 F and 7D, so this roster makes sense, however if we were to do a regular 12F and 6D, we could either not re-sign Zadorov and replace him with Valimaki (not ideal but we are cap crunched) or move Valimaki. We could also send Lucic to AZ with a pick if he waives his NMC, however I kept him as he was a good match with Ruzicka when Ruzicka was up with us. For the 12th forward if we were to get one, Pelletier is a good option or bringing in a cheap vet on a one year deal if we want to develop Pelletier one more year.

    Future considerations

Reasoning: While seattle is trying to limit their cap to keep it open in the future, one year of his contract with a likely HUGE decrease in pay his next contract with a chance of him returning to a quality top 6 player (unlikely but you never know) is worth it for a second. Worst case they don't sign him after the year is up and they get a second for a one year rental when they aren't competing.

What would you guys look for in return for Kylington if he were ever moved? Not saying that's likely but clearly there are some cap considerations if you were to keep all of Tkachuk GJ Mang so maybe some other guys get moved to make room.

    I really like Kylington's game

Seattle can have Lucic with a 2nd, Monahan certainly won't cost that to move

He won't be moved, Calgary doesn't have certain replacement for him right now. I doubt he cost more than 2.5M to sign too

Yeah, I figured he wouldn't be but wondered what type of return he would net. Would imagine drastic overpay would be required.

I would want a 1st. The thing is it's really hard to tell what his ceiling is right now since he needs to work on consistency. The only way I see him being moved is if Calgary wanted to upgrade to like Chychrun or something

I think he is easily worth a second, if we were to sign and trade him I could see him going for a second, and maybe a later round pick. Or a good but not great prospect and a mid to later round pick. I do think if he develops his defensive game further he could be worth much more, but as of right now with his average defence that is his worth. I would rather keep him though.

Agreed, I just don't see us resigning Monahan whereas I could easily see sutter wanting to bring Lucic back on a cheap deal for that 4th line. What do you think it would cost to move monahan then? A third or 4th?

The issue with that is we still lack a top 9 center then unless Dube shifts there
