Flames try to stay competitive

Created by: BigBradT

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 21, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Competitive is a stretch lets be honest, but I don't see the Flames going into a quick rebuild, I believe they will instead try and retool.
Explanations;
-Tkachuk is gone, we know that, and the alleged list of teams he proposed apparently wasn't true, so NJ is still a possibility, and I like the return of Bratt, who will fit in nicely on a line with Mangiapane and Lindholm, 2 early round picks and a prospect in Stillman. NJ also gets a top tier winger they can fit with one of Hischier or Hughes.
-Mangiapane contrcat as well as Kylington contract are nothing unseen so far in terms of projected contracts
-Phillips accepts QO and maybe finally gets his shot at some NHL minutes if Monahan continues to play poorly, in which case we can try and move him and a mid round pick to a team scraping the cap floor (ANA, ARI) in return for maybe a late round pick or struggling prospect (Not really necessary as he only has 1 year left, unless the Flames have some big moves in the works.)
-Ruzicka signs a 2 year deal worth about 100k more than his QO for 2 years, hoping he can settle in and continue to play well as he did in his brief stint last year, him and Lucic played well together so Lucic stays for his last deal.
-It's finally Pelletier's time, give him a shot at the big leagues and if he is struggling Rooney can sub in his spot and Lewis is back in lineup.
-Bring back Stone for a one year deal in case Valimaki is struggling.
-Just to justify Lucic on PP1, Sutter utilized him there in front of the net last year, idk if I agree with it but he'll stay for now.

Couldn't the Flames stay competitive by just holding onto Tkachuk? Now I think they should trade him,but doubt if they get that return.

Mukhamadulin would be a good sub i think, I just didn't want to make the trade seem too lopsided

I think if we wanted to go more of the rebuild route your proposed trade is better

He won't see long term, but he is going to be a Flame this year due to his arbitration .
UFAs come and go all the time.....why is should anyone think Tkachuk (or Gaudreau) would be any different. Funny how homer fans get upset if one of their own leave via UFA, but are OK with signing "other teams" UFA....like Markstrom, Coleman, and Tanev.

In all the reports I've seen it seems as if a trade is imminent

OK let say he is traded. No reason why the Flames can't be competitive even with Tkachuk and Gaudreau gone. Just spend that 18m that had been allowed for those two wisely.
Certainly a team via trade isn't going to give up a whole lot, unless Tkachuk is signed long term. But if the trade as proposed went down, the Flames are still a playoff team, and next year with non value contracts Monahan and Lucic off the books, Flamers could reload immediately.

Yeah the whole point of the moves i made were to stay competitive. I tried to follow the direction i think the Flames management will go, and unless we sign Kadri I don't really see us being huge spenders this free agency, especially with most of the big names off the market already. I like your point about next year with lucic and monahan off the books, I definetly think we can make some moves
