Wouldn't it just be easier for Vegas to move Smith (or any of their IR guys) from IR to LTIR?

Players can't be transferred to the LTIR unless they are going to miss a certain number of games or 30 days, since none of the players on IR are expected to miss that much time then they can't move to LTIR.

The whole reason behind the Dadonov trade is because one or both are close to returning and since a player "cannot" remain on LTIR if healthy then the Knights have to clear cap. Also without Stone it is more likely the Knights miss the playoffs so they need to activate him sooner rather than later.

Must be Martinez because I think Stone might still be uncleared to play longer. I really haven't followed the situation closely

But they have to find a better solution than give Smith and a 1st

Might as well just waive him for example.

And yeah they seem destined to miss the playoffs anyway

Yeah perhaps asking for the 1st was a bit of a stretch lol but hey why not go for broke lol.

Not sure the 1st is much of a stretch.
From Pierre LeBrun yesterday in the Athletic:
And from a sampling of text message queries to a few NHL front offices Wednesday, they would certainly listen to potential trade offers from Vegas but the price would be sky-high, like at least a first-round pick if not more.

Yeah teams pretty well have Vegas over a barrel now as they have to clear cap in a hurry so that they can get stone and Martinez back and remain in the playoff race.

Well, Gorton is a pretty good GM. He got full value for Lehkonen and Chiarot and got more than I could ever imagined for Kulak; so if it's possible he would try something like that
