Staying Competitive with Fiala Gone

Description
The Big trade here is Fiala to Ottawa. The Wild would ideally like a guy like Greig fits the style of play Billy wants to play. Ottawa would be a hard to move from this years high draft pick so to encourage the Wild to settle for next years which would be later in the first, include RD Thomson. Who has played a bit of NHL time this year. The ‘23 pick could be top 3 or 5 protected if that is such a huge concern.
But seeing them trying to get Giroux. Image a line of Tkachuk Giroux and Fiala. Thunder and Lighting on the Wings in Ottawa.
I think it’s a pretty fair trade overall.

The Kulikov one is money related and can be to any team. So don’t get after me about Flyers not needing a defenseman just put any team there that needs a solid defenseman. Would love what your team would give up for him in a trade. I was think mid to late mid draft pick 3rd - 5th round pick, but don’t have a great idea.

I did create NCAA free agent Ben Meyers thought their were rumors he is coming to the Wild after the season could be wrong we could use a guy like him though on a good contract. Possible add Jake Livingstone a bid RD from Minnesota State Mankato as well for more RD prospect depth.

I didn’t add all the other RFAs the Wild would sign or the guys from the reserve list to save time. I don’t think we will sign Filip Johansson (1st rounder - 2018). So correct me if I’m wrong but don’t we get a compensation 2nd round pick.

The UFAsi picked up being MAF and Nick D. I like the edge and muscle Nick brings also could help keep Foligno out of the box. Less fighting for him, he is good to keep on the ice. MAF I heard rumors he may take less to stay some where competitive and he has a strong connection with Billy.
Middleton is the RFA I signed that is currently on the roster I might be a tad low on AAV, but he is a defensive defenseman and completes the other 3 quite well also good size and physicality.

Also we aren’t jammed up against the cap so we will have some flexibility to resign Boldy the following year. Because he could be offersheeted to the other side of the money with our cap problems, our other young guys contracts can be slid to after the cap hell years.

What do you wall think about this roster? Trades realistic, and what about signings? Probably most important do you think a roster like this could stay competitive next year? Here’s to hoping the Wild loss their first round pick and get their second back in return.

MIN
  1. Greig, Ridly
  2. Thomson, Lassi
  3. 2023 1st round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
I included an additional prospect. Thomson because the Wild would want this years 1st, but Ottawa will do everything to avoid doing this, and trade next years because of it more then likely being later in the draft.
OTT
  1. Fiala, Kevin
Additional Details:
Fiala already has an extension in place and I think 7x7 is about right it may go up in AAV but I don’t think drastically higher.
2.
MIN
  1. 2022 4th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
I guessed 4th but compensation could really be anything. Just getting rid of some cap and maybe getting some assets in the process.
PHI
  1. Kulikov, Dmitry
Additional Details:
This could be any team that is looking for some D help. It is also a cap dump. Would love to hear who you think would need a player like Kulikov a solid Defenseman.

The one reason I hesitate with last year is that it was a shortened season, and an odd one at that. His stats say he was a 1.5 ppg player over 30ish games. Obviously if that was over 50/60 games then we are talking about Greig’s debut rather than whether he’s a 2nd or third liner.

All I have to go on are scoring stats, which aren’t always the best. And I take your point about his age, which is why I’m certain he’s an NHLer. This is a data issue, not really a player issue.

Very possible he makes opening day roster next year on the 3rd line or he might be the 1C in the AHL we will see

I think it’d be a mistake to send him to Bellevue. But that’s just me.

He’s very skilled for a gritty type player . I see him as a 50-55pt 2nd liner with gritty play at his peak. So similar production to Wilson

I don't mind giving Greig, but giving him and Thomson pretty much takes any 1st round pick out of the trade, regardless of year. Greig and the 2022 1st is probably too much, but it's closer.

If I were MIN, I'd take the prospects over demanding a 1st, they are at a good spot in their developement for MIN, and an OTT 2nd is still a good pick. Too much is made out of needing a 1st in return, the OTT 2nd looks like it will be around the 36th-38th pick.

So you think. Swapping the 1st out for this years 2nd. A few have said that it is a little rich. Would another piece from Minnesota to Ottawa help. We have a number of LD prospects I know you got a handful of guys there. What about a 3rd or so this year or a guy like Mason Shaw, Alexander Khovanov?

Do you think that would even the deal up more.

I'm not interested in part with any of the The Magnificent Seven™ or even Hateful Eight™

Chabot, Sanderson, Stutzle, Batherson, Norris, Tkachuk, Pinto, Greig

Formenton and Sogaard are also off-limits for me. Sens have plenty of other valuable assets, that's what you have to use in trades.

Of course, some exceptions would be made for some players but that kind are usually not for trade until later in their career.
