I think a 2nd is reasonable for Lucic in his last year (a 1st maybe, like Marleau, but a 2nd is a good guess).

But for Monahan, it would be difficult for a team to take on 6M+ in salary without a sweetener with how his performance has dropped IMO. It's only 1 year so a trade could (and lets be real, it probably will) happen, but it could cost you.

"Keeping the gang together". Well you didn't. Doubt if Lucic is going to waive to lousy team in what might be his final NHL season. And why would teams trade for Monahan? Best thing for the Flames, cap wise, is Monahan stays on LTIR for an extended period.

Treliving has said with Monahan’s surgery ASAP that he will have plenty of time to get healthy before next season. So a long stint on LTIR won’t last into next season.

That said, I think everyone who believes that no teams in the league would pay to acquire Monahan are wrong. He’s a low risk reclamation project worth the gamble. CGY needs to move his contract to keep Gaudreau and Tkachuk going forward, especially if all UFA/RFA players are signed with reasonable (ie. Smart) term.

I think Monahan for a 3rd round pick to take him and his salary is a reasonable deal. And I think we’ll find out this summer what Treliving is able to pull off on that trade. I could be wrong and CGY gets pinched to move him, but I’m leaning towards CGY getting something back.

Maybe destinations: CLB, BOS, ANA (acquire, help him score a bit, then eat salary and trade to contender at TDL for asset), etc.

Who knows. All I know is that CGY isn’t going to let Gaudreau or Tkachuk leave. It can be done.

Gaudreau is a UFA, it's his choice where he signs....not the Flames. There certainly are other teams that have a good opportunity to sign Gaudreau.
Tkachuk. You can be UFA in summer of 2023, if he just takes a QO from the Flames this summer and not sign long term.
Now those contracts offered in post...might keep those two players in Calgary. Still players have other reasons to sign long term with any team.
