Not that a 3rd round pick is expensive, but what's the deal with Georgiev this season? Seems to have dropped off a bit.

If the net effect is to have $ handy to sign Strome and keep Panarin happy...you never know!

I highly doubt Drury would trade Lindgren to free up money to sign Strome just to keep Panarin happy. IMO, that's why he got Copp, a cheaper alternative to Strome if needed. First thing he did as GM was sign Lindgren to an extension because he knows that they need players with grit plus he is Fox's left hand on the ice. He also traded for Reaves for similar reason but also to be the enforcer and immediately gave him a year extension. Drury is trading for signing specific type of players, guys with skill AND grit and he isn't going to start moving them out, especially since what he has been has resulted in success so far. If Strome over prices himself, he won't be playing alongside Panarin next season.

LOL I'm sure there would be more to it than pandering to Panarin...for sure that's not a good look- but if Drury can get both Copp and Strome signed for around 5 yrs...and the combined CAP is 10.25M (or less) then Drury has to go with that to keep Zib/Strome?Copp down the middle. Problem here is the CAP has to come from somewhere. The line up here sacrafices Lindgren, Reaves, and Chytl. If either of the three are to remain a different "unpopular" decision is required: Trouba? Kreider? Goodrow? Not much wiggle room- and all 3 have movement clauses. Of course you can easily say to not extend Strome...but if the price and term are right I think that's the move. This team is deep on D- but not so down the middle. Oh- and yes...if Strome prices himself too high he will find himself somewhere else next year.

Imo they're not necessarily going to trade Lindy to make room for Strome, but because he's one of the most replaceable and he still has market value. I think we probably try to move Trouba as well. He's been great, but there is only so room and this team has changed a lot since they acquired him.

I really like Lindy and even bought his jersey.

Moving Trouba is probably the best move to make. He's played real well- so his value is probably as high now as ever (as a Ranger), and with one move they'd free a lot of CAP...and Lundqvist (arguably their 2nd or 3rd best Dman) could step right into the right side. Problem with Trouba is his contract- and the few teams that could easily absorb his contract, his NMC would enable him to nix the move.

BTW, I like Lindy too...but separating who you like versus what's best for the team is not easy...us all typing our thoughts into this site is fun stuff...but being in Drury's shoes for real- don't envy him a bit!

Trouba has been a beast this season and he is only 28, so I can't see any reason to move him. D take time to mature and he is now in his prime. His NMC burns off in two more seasons, just as Schneider's ELC ends, so that would be a better time to move him IMO. Schneider will get two more seasons of learning from Trouba too that way.

As it stands, NYR have roughly 13M in CAP to work with this coming off season- with several players needing raises who the're not going to want to walk away from. So while I agree with your point here, Trouba could possibly be a "sell high" candidate...in a move which could help their CAP this year and beyond- where several more are coming off ELCs. The same could be said about Kreider. So the way it breaks down is as follows: Trade Trouba OR Kreider OR Panarin OR Chytl + Reaves + Lindgren. Trading Nemeth is a given in any scenario. If one of these scenarios are unacceptable, then you have to be prepared to move on from probably a few of Strome, Copp, Vatrano, and Motte.
