If Chicago wins the draft lottery part 1

Created by: Jacketsman61

Description
If Chicago wins the draft lottery in this summer’s draft then Chicago must give up its 2023 1st round pick as it will be unprotected. This puts the Jackets in a very interesting position. Chicago is rebuilding and that pick could be a lottery ticket to Conor Bedard. Jarmo is a very competitive guy but one would have to assume he would understand that this team is building through the draft and what an opportunity this would be to really get the high end talent that Columbus has failed to get since their inception to the league. It would be tough to make these moves but in the end it would be in the franchise’s best interest to take advantage of the situation.

It is hard to tell how the 2022 draft will go but the Jackets with their own pick draft Ivan Miroshnicheko. Jarmo likes his Russian players and Jarmo is not afraid to get a player higher on the board if he feels he won’t be able to get him later.

Rangers would consider trading Chytil for Texier or Foudy but other than we don't need another winger.

Why would NYR want Foudy? They haven't used Kravtsov?

Also, hopefully CHI don't win the lottery and we keep our high end pick next year. If not a top 2 pick this year wouldn't be all bad. It would just change our approach for next season where I doubt we would be so forgiving with giving a top 10 pick to CBJ.

Foudy is a C with upside. Kravtsov is supposed to return after the KHL playoffs Is over so we will see how that goes.

My heart breaks for Miroshnicheko and i hope he gets drafted on the early side still, but CBJ can't afford to take him where their pick will be. Would be a major reach considering nobody knows his future

Well if you consider that we already have a glut of contracts at the NHL level, it could be beneficial to let them train while this team builds and slowly gets rid of older contracts. The Blue Jackets don’t like dead money so they try to avoid it at all cost. Again if Jarmo likes a player, he doesn’t have a problem taking that player even if it is a reach.

How do you change your approach? The Blackhawks are clearly rebuilding. They need prospects and don’t have great cap space in order to sign FA, should they even want to come there. Toews contract is almost unmovable and in both instances Kane and Toews would require the Blackhawks to retain 50% of their remaining salary. Not sure they have a lot of options on changing their approach.

I get that most of our fans would rather have our pick next year, and I see the argument for that. But I would rather the guarantee of Wright this year than the unknown next year. Wright is still better than everyone next year other than Bedard and Michkov, in my opinion. Hawks are still far from the worst team in the league. Kane and Debrincat would have to be traded if we were gonna be worse than Arizona and a few other teams next year. A guarenteed 1st OA is better than taking a shot at winning a lottery next year imo

While that is valid, would you say the same thing if we got 2nd OA and missed out on Wright? I feel the difference is, the guys in the top 10 next year are closer to wright then the drop off from wright this year. If we could secure Wright this year, it would not be bad at all but if its not 1OA then IMO would prefer the 23' pick. I just keep looking at how we set up after TDL and it seems to me that we didn't want to finish any lower in this draft so that we can target the 23 draft. I could be completely wrong though thats the sense I'm feeling.

It would require a lot of changes which are unlikely tbh however if we got Wright, Its not too bad to give you the 23' pick as we can pick up more at the TDL next year anyhow. If you gave me the choice however I would prefer a chance at the 2 guys in 23 rather than the draft class of 22.

Even if we got 2nd, it would be tough to pass a guarenteed 2nd oa pick for the unknown next year. The median outcome on that pick next year is what like 7th probably? There are teams worse than us for sure

I feel like this year is more of a crapshoot with the lads missing a whole year of play and I feel more comfortable with the value of a 1st in 2023.
