Don't think the blues make that trade. I think the trade their first but for a different player. They traded Edmundson and I don't think they trade back for him.

The majority of Armia’s contract is still owed to him, can’t see Columbus taking him with almost 11.5 mil still owed to Armia over 3 years, and one year at 4.8.

So you think a team will pay to take on your dump. You wanna dump Hoffman then send a 1st to the pens.

I like Hoffman. I think he's a good player and not at all overpaid at 4.5M - Some team will take him on for his offensive instincts, if not the Pens. He CAN score 30 goals playing with a player like Crosby or Malkin. If not to offload the salary, the habs would definitely keep him. It just so happens that our old GM overpaid a bunch of players it's nearly impossible to get rid of, like Armia, Gallagher, Drouin and we need to trade the players we CAN like Hoffman & Edmundson.

I think that's fair, but Jarmo Kekäläinen has come to town a number of times to scout him personally. I bet a 2nd round pick gets it done! - FYI I modified the trade to a 2nd & a 4th based on your comment!

Fair point. But he's not the same player he was back then. He's matured to the point that he's arguably a better Defensemen than Chiarot and the Blues were in on that until the very end. Plus he's got term at a cap-friendly number of $3.5 million. I could see it happen. Unless the Habs overshoot all expectations next season and make the playoffs, he's definitely getting traded for a Chiarot/Savard-like return at the 2023 trade deadline.

I totally get your point. But we've seen 2 years in a row what the market is for prime-aged stay at home defensemen who shine in the playoffs. Savard (freakin' Savard!) got a 1st and a 3rd. Chiarot went for more.

I think have to realize that there is going to be a team that pays the price for him once he's on the market. Maybe it won't be the Blues though... I wonder if Toronto or Edmonton pays that price, especially since he has term.

I like Letang but 5 years at 8M$ is way too much. I would give 7M$ for 3 years max but IMO I would pass we are rebuilding and we need to spend on young talented players.

You can't just have kids on your team. They need some veterans to help them understand how to be a professional and what it takes to win. Letang is one of the league's best and is finding ways to stay on top. 8M will be a hometown discount IMO. He can get 8.5-9.5 as the top D on the market have been getting as of last season.

I see your point. We have Edmundson, Savard Byron and Price. Letang is too expensive we will regret it like Gallagher.

Hoffman is a powerplay specialist and stinks at even strength. Sure Hoffman COULD score 30 playing with Crosby or Malkin. And my aunt COULD be my uncle if she had balls.

That 2nd would have to be Montreal’s 2nd for this to become even remotely close. The Jackets have too many contracts at the NHL level especially forwards. With younger players needing playing time I just can’t see the Jackets taking on a player with no real use and more or less complicates the situation. The reward has to be worth it.
