getting a 2nd (even a 4th) for rodrigues' UFA rights is pretty wishful thinking imo

    Detroit declines.

Getting both a 3rd and a prospect for Pettersson is too much. Detroit will choose someone else.

Thats what he's worth imo. Would you do Grewe and 4th?

im not sure what that really has to do with anything, the penguins dont have any leverage in a trade to command a return like that if hes a UFA.

you might be able to get a 5th or 6th for his UFA rights but you cant trade draft picks which are contingent on a player signing or re-signing (from what i gather), so you kind of have to gauge what the value of his UFA rights is at face value where its not dependant on if he does or doesnt have a contract.

true. What if he agreed to an extension before hand?

Minnesota isn't giving up anything here. They have no need or room for player like Rodriguez. So easy no from Minnesota

Edmonton has very little cap space this offseason, any trade would involve contracts going the other way. Besides, I doubt they spend their draft assets on more wingers.

i mean I think you could shore up getting value for him if he was extended but its a bit tricky. If the pens sign him with the purpose of trading him teams will still probably lowball them on offers imo, but teams also need to value the contract he gets signed to otherwise they might just not be interested which could again limit his market and drive the price down.

UFA right trades dont happen a lot because it takes a pretty specific set of circumstances for it to happen

What Pettersson is worth depends a lot on what other comparable players are being traded for and how desperate PIT is to dump cap (and make room for Joseph).

There are three options available for Detroit in Pettersson, Martinez, and Schmidt. We need one or two of them depending on how our new guys (Walman and Juolevi) look the rest of the season. We also have two jobs that needs to be covered and that makes me lean towards getting two of them, one defensive player to be paired with Hronek and one offensive to run our PP2 and play with Seider. Pettersson would be a good option to help out Hronek.

I'd happily give a 3rd round pick straight up for him, or a straight swap for McIsaac (or add a 6th or 7th) and I'd be happy to give you Grewe and a 5th. Grewe and a 4th is right on the limit so it would depend on how much the other teams are asking for Martinez and Schmidt but it's real close, I'll give you that.

The Pens wouldn't get anything better than a 7th for Rodrigues' UFA rights. Thy might get a 2nd for Letang's.
