Taking The Next Step Forward

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 15, 2022
Published: Apr. 17, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Jackets need to sure up the backend. Larsson and Lyubushkin will help reduce the amount of picks getting to Elvis.

Putting Johnson down in AHL Cleveland needs to happen. Along with Chinakhov and Marchenko, they can get a lot of ice time and develop the right way. No need to rush them.

I do like the Larsson idea, but I wouldn’t consider moving our 2023 pick. That draft is starting to look really strong and with Bedard and Michkov leading the way. I’d almost rather move our own pick this year vs next seasons.

I’d also try to get a vet backup who’s good playing 20-25 games a season and playing Tarosov in the AHL for 50+ games vs sitting on the bench in the NHL.

I debated whether to make it our 1st this season but I felt that if Seattle were to move him it would have to be worth it for them especially with 3 years remaining on his contract.

As far as goaltending goes, I like Tarasov a lot. I think he is going to be able to handle backup duties as soon as next year. But I could see the Jackets getting a more experienced vet though.

I like Tarosov a lot too, I’d just rather he played vs sitting in the bench, with him being 24 it would be better for his development to play vs sit. I’d also say that is Elvis was to get hurt he would come up and step in as the starter. I also think Elvis plays better when he is the 1 and not pushed from behind.

You have good points but have to say that 19 year old Sillinger is probably not ready for 1C role next season. 2C at best. He is still learning and need to be protected against the best.

Insane overpay. I'd rather just add another asset and get Chych.

Foudy + a 2nd should get Larssob

Disagree. While Larsson doesn’t have the greatest offensive numbers, his defense has been pretty good. Plus being signed for 3 more years at a very reasonable rate we would have to give more value than that.

The way I look at it we scored more goals in a season than we have had but also gave up the most ever had. If this team can cut the goals against this team can very much be competitive and a contender. We have cap space and assets at our disposal to make this team better. It is clear our defense core is lacking, using a 1st for a proven commodity then a prospect might be our best option.

A 1st, 2 promising young players, another prospect and a pick for a guy on the wrong side of 30 who is a middle pair dman at best? While rebuilding?

There's similar guys who'd cost way less

Completely agree on the need here; but...

This is my point. CBJ need a strong defensive minded RD to pair with Zach, as well as some depth on the right side. Peeke is in over his head on the top-pairing, and Boqvist is more of an offensive puck-mover who would work well in a middle pairing (alongside Peeke or Vlad).

Larsson is in that squishy middle-space that doesn't really work for us - he's not good enough to be a 1D (imo), but he's making too much to be a 6/7 (R)D.

If we're going to give up a 1st+ (let alone a package to this scale), we can do (much) better than Larsson.

There will also be a few decent options in UFA this summer. I actually really like Zadorov, assumming CGY doesn't re-sign him.

You do realize that he is only 29 and he would be an UFA at 33. We would be getting good years out of him. We are not paying for his offense it would be the defense.

First a team has to be will to move the said player. Zadorov, which I like, is not a first pair defenseman either. Larsson is a player that can be trusted defensively. He would be excellent for Werenski because it would allow him to be more engaged offensively. Larsson’s defense numbers are very good and definitely top pair numbers. He has proved he can log heavy minutes too.

ehhhhhh...

I respectfully disagree.

And didn’t say Zadorov would necessarily be the top pair guy. I just like his fit on the team; though, again, if you’re just looking for defensive responsibility, he checked those boxes.

I mean, agree to disagree. I like the Larsson fit but I still think you're giving up WAYYY too much
