What if we reversed the 2018 firesale

Created by: destroyers19
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 21, 2022
Published: Apr. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
When you reverse the major 2018 trades the Sens made, the team looks... interesting. Future is severely diluted, and the team is way over the cap. Maybe Dorion knew what he was doing?

It was hardly a fire sale, when a non playoff team trades their unsignable upcoming UFAs....Karlsson, Stone, Duchene, Pageau. I don't know folks were so angry with Ottawa's management and ownership. Trading some players that would not be resigned and would never live to their new contracts was a wise decision.

I think you should be more concerned with how the Senators traded for Duchene. It's weird, they were right about how much better he is than Turris, considering Turris fell off a massive cliff after leaving Ottawa, but I will never understand why they thought Duchene was what they needed to put them over the top. If I remember correctly, they needed more defensive depth and another scoring winger more than an upgrade at center.

Here was their line-up:

Hoffman-Turris-Stone
MacArthur (after multiple concussions)-Brassard-Ryan
Dzingel-Pageau-Burrows
Pyatt-Smith-Wingels
Kelly, Stalberg

Methot-Karlsson
Phaneuf-Ceci
Borowiecki-Wideman
Harpur, Claesson

Anderson
Hammond
Condon

Yeah, that lineup screams 2nd line LW, better bottom-6 forwards, and one more defensive upgrade. I wouldn't look at that lineup and think "we need to upgrade Turris to Duchene".
