Saving Gaudreau

Created by: Xertalz
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 21, 2022
Published: Apr. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Honestly, should be easier for Calgary to re-sign Gaudreau and Tkachuk than I thought. Not 100% on the price of moving Monahan/Lucic, but what do picks matter to the contending Flames

Sorry, Lucic is not tradable. All he has to do , do to list teams with no cap that we be on his trade list. He'll want to be a contender (the Flames) in his last NHL season.

He's not going to get an 84M contract. That's more than the Rangers overpaid to get Panarin before a flat cap. A 3 year deal for Tkachuk is just silly too.

Why are you overpaying for 2 4th liners and a 3rd pair defenseman?

I dont agree with this, he's a very humble guy and has already waive his NMC twice. He's not going to screw over Calgary if they need to move him, same way Staal didnt with the Rangers and Stralman didn't with the Panthers.

Do I think Calgary will trade him though? No, they will likely ride him out and move Monahan instead

He’ll get 84. 3 years is appropriate, makes him a ufa at 28. Gotta pay for quality and reliability.

Matthew Tkachuck would walk before taking only a 3 year deal, Lucic this summer has a 10 team trade list good luck moving him. And Monahan has a 10 team no trade list he's trending down and coming off of a hip injury. Good luck moving either player.

Can’t trade an injured player.

Sure he waived twice....once to go from Edmonton to Calgary, which didn't affect his lifestyle and he went to a better team.
C'mon he didn't drop his NMC for the entry draft to be selected by Seattle. He did it because he knew wasn't going be selected by Seattle, and in effect allowed his Flames to protect any additional player.

Now I think Monahan is tradable if a team wants to give a chance to be a good player again, and Monahan to get his career on track again.

He still has a place in SoCal. I think the Ducks could be a fit to ensure no more liberties are taken on Zegras/Terry/Drysdale. Only due 1m in actual money too

But what is Lucic's motivation in what might be his last NHL season? To play for a good team Calgary and maybe one last chance at Cup run or to play for a non playoff team.
If he like 99% of players in his situation, he doesn't move.

That is fair. He has won a cup so it's hard to say what his motivation is at this point. The hope from the Flames has to be that Anaheim is one of the teams not on his M-NTC. Given that he still has a place down there I think he may be open to playing in SoCal again, but he's definitely not being dumped off to a New Jersey or Columbus

You are missing my point. Lucic is not that selfish of a player to screw over Calgary like that. He probably wont be moved but if he is I don't think he will purposely block teams that would want him, he would block teams that he legitimately doesn't want to go to. I could definitely see Seattle not one of the teams he blocks since he prefers to be close to home. He may block Arizona but his contract would be very interesting for them. He could also just straight up retire too

Yes you can, Sami Vatanen was injured when Carolina acquired him at the TDL 2 years ago, Seabrook was just traded this summer and will never play again

I doubt Gaudreau gets over 10M per, probably 9.5M per. Who can offer better than a 76M deal? That's at minimum 10.86M per year.

If Treliving can only get 3 years from the guy they most likely plan to name captain he should be fired immediately

I’d accept both do those if they were offered to Anaheim
