Rebuild concepts:

Bury Byron in AHL
Play Drouin in the top 6 during 2022-3 and trade him at TDL for whatever you can get
Trade Armia in cap dump deal to make room for developing prospects
Trade Weber in cap dump deal
Trade Petry if you can get a RHD back, otherwise keep him
No Big Free Agent acquisitions
Finish in the bottom 5 in 2022-23
Focus on developing players at the right levels (CHL, AHL, NHL). No skipping steps.

Trading Weber serves no purpose if he never plays again. If any team trades for him knowing he’ll never play again he’ll be buried on LTIR until his contract ends and won’t help a team like Arizona hit the cap floor

They don't have to put him on LTIR, they can put him on IR instead. It's a team decision. He's paid 3 Million, 1 Million, 1 Million, 1 Million in cash to cover 7.85 in cap hit, so they pay an average of 1.5 million per season in useless salary to get 6.35 million in money they don't have to spend.

It'd be much better asset management to trade a retained Hoffman for picks than have him play on a fourth line and give away picks for someone to keep Armia.

I think that's fair, but the coach seems to like Hoffman, and maybe he can get Hoffman back to a 25-30 goal place and the habs can trade him at the TDL or during the offseason the following year. His value is at an all time low.

Yes he's on the 4th line here, but he's also on the power play. Don't forget with injuries he'll move up.

The honest truth is no one wants Hoffman either...

Culturally Armia is more of a disaster than Petry. If Petry is scoring he's helping you while increasing his value for a later deal. The kids on the bubble in Laval look up and see Armia doing nothing and blocking them from playing... it's a real gut punch.
