Description
Absolutely gutted about last night's loss. However, everything with this group just felt different than in past years. I hope Dubas and Co. decide to take a page from Tampa's book and run the same group back next season.

I wanted to keep as much of the team intact as possible, however, with the cap, Kerfoot, Holl, and Mrazek were the odd ones out. I used Ottawa as a landing spot for Kerfoot as he would be a good top 9 forward for them and have the potential to recoup assets for them at the deadline should Ottawa fall from playoff contention. I feel it will cost the Leafs a first and a prospect to move Mrazek, so the only change there could be the prospect that goes the other way.

Trying to bring back RFA/UFA was a bit more of a challenge. For example, Giordano. I loved how he fit with the Leafs team this year, and I think they would love to have him back. His play certainly showed that he still has gas in the tank, but I feel other teams could offer more money on a one-year deal...

Mikheyev is a hard one to gauge. Injury problems to start his career with the Leafs. Comes back the following year and is basically a black hole on offense. This year puts it all together and scores at a 30-goal pace while being a menace on the PK. Taking a stab at the term and AAV, but it could go either way really.

I feel the Blackwell, Kase, Liljegren, Sandin, and Engvall signings are all close in value and term. Lyubushkin may be light on the AAV, as physical RHD doesn't grow on trees, so it wouldn't shock me if other teams sign him for more money.

Let me know what you think.

wont cost that much to dump mrazek, Lybushkin will get a bit more (i saw your comment) and you could probably get a 2nd for Kerfoot

The Leafs Desperately need a 2nd Pair RHD.
They also need to improve their third line like a Blake Coleman, Barclay Goodraw line .
If not they will not win a round

Not trying to be a jerk here but I think they are still a couple of peices short. Peices that need to be replaced IMO are Engvall, Simmons, Spezza, Tavares (not that he isn't good just they need a lower cap hit for the 2C), also someone on D I am just not sure who I would move cause they compliment each other pretty well lol. I just think they need a slight bit more stability there. Their Goalies are good and I wouldn't change them up. Maybe a coaching change or systems change to develop a better team defense would be good as well.

As for who to bring in:

I would start with a good center who doesn't cost as much as Johnny T but isn't really a downgrade either. Maybe Scheifele If you could convince Tavares to waive (not necessarily to Winnipeg but anywhere to get some cap space).

Move 2 would be the D, who to move out and who to bring in.

Out for me is Lyubushkin or Reilly (Not sure if he is good enough of a 2 way player to be a #1D) If you are moving Reily you have to be going for a guy like Dunn or Girard to replace him. If Lyubushkin, I would seriously look at spending the extra to go after a Dumba type of player.

The rest of the moves are just depth moves that younger guys can fill. Engvall, Spezza and Simmonds can be replaced by guys like Lehkonen, Joseph, Deslauries, Sprong or some prospects looking to be full time role players.

Couple notes:
Signings:
Mikheyev is gone, will probably make between 4 and 5
Engvall probably makes closer to 2/2.5
Campbell is closer to 4 (very injured and not a great year)
Russian bear probably goes elsewhere for more cash.
Everything else is about right imo, just don't know if Spezza comes back, he's getting older, him and Giordano might not think this team cam make it next year (who would blame them)

Trades:
Get real with kerfoot, the guy had 51 points without powerplay time and only has a cap hit of 3.5. That's minimum late 1st. Vancouver might be a team that has him circled.

Probably a 2nd+ meh prospect to get rid of Mrazek

Holl gets more than a 7th. Chariot got a 1st +, Manson got a really solid prospect and a 2md I believe. So something around a 2nd would make sense. 6'3 right handed defenseman who can play 20 mins a night and kill penalties? Those guys hold lots of value to coaches/gms.

What do I think they should do?

Well it would.be fun if the blew it up, I don't see it happening. Maybe Nylander goes? Probably only happens if New Jersey thows something big at you. Nylander and Jack have known each other awhile I believe, and they are in a position to make big moves. High pick? Bratt?

I think they target LA for another d man. Doughty, durzi, Spence, Grans, Walker, Roy, and I believe I'm forgetting a few more prospects who are on the cusp. Top forward prospect (maybe Robertson) for 1 of them would be a good swap.

Need a backup. I like Wedgwood.

Another player I'd look into for that 2nd line would be beauvillier on the Islanders. Very good defensive forward who can play anywhere. Would cost a lot, but he's an excellent player on a team that looks to be changing things up.
