Description
Ok so something with the Leafs needs to change. Personally I am a Sens fan, so nothing brings me more joy than seeing the Leafs lose year after year. BUT, if I were to be left in charge of the Leafs this offseason, these are some of the moves that I would make.

Tried to make dumping Holl kinda realistic, I chose to move Marner of the Big 4 since he redeemed his value this past season, plus moving his cap hit gives more flexibility. I'm not totally convinced that LA would do this, but with Brown retiring, I feel as though its time for the Kings to make a splash to try and make a deep run for Kopitar. Kempe also gives the Leafs a different look in their top 6 and I think he can work well with JT. I feel as though Walker would compliment Reilly quite well and he's been underrated in LA the past couple of seasons and is under contract for a couple more years at a reasonable number. Moved Kerfoot to get cap space.

In FA, bridging Liljegren and Sandin give more flexibility in the next few seasons. Campbell definitely earned himself a raise. The largest allocation of Marner's money is to Filip Forsberg, who again, I feel adds a different element to the mix that could help the Leafs, especially in the playoffs. Namestnikov had a good year in Dallas and hit cap number might be a bit low but you hope he'd be willing to take a bit of a lower number to come play with Matthews. Dzingel spent half the year in the minors last season, but he's still someone with good speed, can play the PK, and has some playoff experience as well.

Phi takes that, it’s not the right package for Marner imo.

Kings can't afford 3x $10M+ players. That's exactly the problem with the Leafs.

The only way LA can take on Marner is if Toronto takes back Kopitar or Doughty.

That’s not close to enough for Marner, if he ever got moved I don’t think LA even has the pieces to acquire him

That's a not a practical 20 man roster. Kings would be much better just to sign Forsberg themselves than to make that trade. Then. they have Kempf, Forsberg,Walker and the young assets.

Lol LA definitely has more than enough pieces to acquire Marner, there's no doubting that.

I just don't think that the Leafs would be looking for straight-up prospects in a potential Marner deal, hence the inclusion of Kempe and Walker. If you frame it in the sense that the Marner's money goes towards Forsberg, you can add him in the theoretical deal as a piece acquired and I don't think that its that far fetched of a deal. Toronto's biggest acquisition in the deal is cap flexibility, which is something that they sorely need.

What kind of package would you be looking for in a Marner deal? From the outside, I think that they need someone who's a bit bigger, and has multiple good tools at their disposal. I feel as though Marner is kind of pigeon-holed into the role of playmaker/passer, whereas if they acquired someone (like Kempe or Forsberg with the money they save) it gives them more flexibility and versatility up front.

Toronto’s in win now mode, they don’t need prospects right now then need players that can help them win so taking away Marner and adding anything LA has to offer right now makes them worse hence why I say LA doesn’t have the pieces to acquire Marner
