Leafs look to add tenacity to the roster while maintaining majority of the core and resigning players.
Leafs move Nylander and Kerfoot for Miller retained at 50%. Likely one of the best returns Canucks could get for Miller. Leafs receive someone who is much more physical and well rounded, despite only having 1 yr left. Vancouver adds some speed, skill, and winger depth to position around Pettersson and Horvat.
Trocheck (for whatever hopeful reason) moves on from Carolina - maybe the Hurricanes let Kotkaniemi, Jarvis and Necas play a larger role and compete for top-6 roles. Leafs spend some cap to sign a player who is willing to throw the body more but is still skilled enough to put up 50+ points in a season. Contract based off of R.Smith / J.Schwartz contracts/production.
Leafs trade Holl to Calgary for essentially cap clearance, but Calgary needs some D for the 22-23 season - assuming Zadorov, Gudbranson, and Stone are let go, Valimaki called up and Kylington re-signed. Would leave the Flames' D core as: Hanifin, Kylington, Valimaki, Tanev, Andersson, Holl. Feasible, imo. Holl is, at the minimum, a quality top-6 defenseman. But I'd like to see the Leafs move on from him.
Leafs receive Myers from Nashville for Hollowell, a 4th and future considerations. Last season, Leafs sent Nashville Biega for future considerations. Myers was then loaned to the Marlies for the remainder of the season. Leafs likely interested in the 6'5" RHD who didn't find his footing in Nashville and was buried in the minors, but had some reasonable success in Philadelphia prior. Hollowell doesn't crack the Leafs lineup anytime soon, change of scenery.
Leafs send Mrazek to Chicago, a team lacking goalie depth. I don't think Chicago goes into next season with a Delia/Lankinen tandem again. Other teams in need of goalie options include Washington and Arizona, but had to pick one. Chicago seems like a reasonable choice, especially as a team trying to acquire picks to rebuild. Use pick acquired in CGY trade for incentive to take Mrazek contract. If Chicago seems unrealistic, imagine Arizona instead. Trade in principle remains the same, a 2nd or ideally a 3rd going with Mrazek in exchange for a late draft pick.
Engvall plays well defensively, 35 pts in 78gp. Due for a decent raise. Kase is a good energy player, 27 pts in 50gp. Better point production, but only 2yr extension due to injury concerns. Mikheyev gone in FA. Liljegren and Sandin both receive bridge deals priced off of Dermott's old 2yr extension.

Fair enough. Tried to find a team that would need defense in the upcoming season, but I can see how Flames re-signing Tkachuk, Mangiapane and Gaudreau would push them away from acquiring Holl. Would be interested to hear what other teams are in need of defenseman for the upcoming season.

To be fair, Mrazek had an incredibly tough year between injuries, bad runs and the stoppage in Jan. I don't believe an acquiring team would simply look to bury his contract. IMO he can bounce back. Change the 3rd to a 2nd if that's what gets it done.

I think a team might give him chance to be a backup, but he's had a pretty long injury history and he's been consistently inconsistent for about 5 years now AND all of those years on cup contending teams. CAR has an amazing defense...TOR has a really good defense. CHI/AZ on the other hand do not. Dubas has worked magic before so I don't want to underestimate him. He was able to swap out Ritchie for a useful Dman and all he needed to give up was a second, but this is multiple years of a worse contract and still not even a 2nd.
That offer for Vincent Trocheck easily gets outbid, Trocheck will get closer to $6,500,000 x 6 years rumors are he's looking for a big payday.

Trocheck just finished the season with 21g, 51 pts. 54 pts netted him a 6yr, 4.75aav deal back in 16-17. Just interested as to why you think he gets 6.5aav with the cap the way it is (Not saying impossible, just curious)

The inconsistency is a good point. I see CHI/AZ/WSH as the teams looking for goalie options. Not sure who else around the league is looking to take chances on their goaltending like those teams. Agree AZ unlikely to pursue due to their team situation lol. Hopefully it doesn't take a 1st to move Mrazek like it did with Marleau.. Leafs need that cap hit gone to make moves

J T Miller makes $5,250,000 per our roughly half of what Vancouver is taking in. Plus Vancouver is retaining $2,625,000 so that's basically has Vancouver eating $13,175,000 in cap hits. The whole reasoning of Vancouver dealing J T Miller is to open up cap space for other players to be signed or sign UFA. They way you have it puts Vancouver in a worse spot.

Canes fans probably have a good idea on what Trocheck's apparent value is. Not sure what teams are in the market for 2C, Colorado comes to mind to replace Kadri. Just wanted to look for a top-6 forward who put up good hit numbers, and isn't a liability on the back end. Trocheck seems to fit that bill really well.
As for Vancouver, I can understand the cap discrepancy. But, I think its worth noting that the only significant player that needs to be re-signed is Boeser. Luongo cap penalty is off the books after this season, clears up another 3M+ for Vancouver. Anyone looking to trade for Miller will be playoff teams imo, so what would be worth more to Vancouver - a few later 1st round picks, maybe a solid prospect or two.. or proven talent signed for 2 more seasons? Maybe remove Kerfoot in exchange for a pick, a 1st or 2nd. Unfortunately to get Miller on the Leafs with this roster they'd need retention. Thanks for being respectful
I debated sending Kerfoot Carolina's way for a Trocheck sign+trade. Seems like a decent fit there, would also offload Kerfoot's cap hit and allow the Leafs to get a jump on negotiations.
Gudbranson wpuld probably resign for cheaper with the Flames and is better than Holl. Someone will take him though he's a decent 3rd pair guy
It cost Nashville less cap to buy Myers out than retain. Leafs can sign him for cheap after that if they want
Vancouver isnt taking on 10.5M cap and also retaining on Miller, thats absurd. Probably cost more to move Mrazek, or at least something not 3 drafts away.

Trocheck was also a near ppg player last year and currently a ppg in the playoffs
